Yummus Hummus with Veggie Sticks

Hummus is one of the oldest foods dating back to ancient Egypt 7,000 years ago and popular in the Middle East today as a dip and spread. What I love about it is the protein content and flavor. This basic hummus has been my go to for a quick afternoon pick me up and afterschool snack. Traditional hummus contains tahini or sesame seed paste, but I’m finding that skipping the tahini also skips that little bit of bitter taste.

  • 1 can garbanzo beans/chickpeas (rinsed and drained)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil (to replace the tahini)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
Add ingredients to blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy.  Serve in a bowl with paprika garnish.
