Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that causes inflammation in the spinal joints. In some cases, it can affect the joints of the hips, shoulders, ribs, heels, and hands. It can also impact the eyes, heart, gastrointestinal tract, and lungs. The condition can progress differently for every person who has it. The symptoms usually appear between the ages of 17–45 years, but they can sometimes begin in childhood.
Ankylosing spondylitis affects about 1% of the U.S. population, or an estimated 3.2 million people. Worldwide, it affects a smaller percent of the population, from 0.1% to 1% of all people. It occurs more frequently in men and in people who carry the gene called HLA-B27. Because the medical establishment believes there's no cure for ankylosing spondylitis, your doctor will likely manage your disease with medications and other therapies to give you some temporary relief. But what your doctor may not know is that the body of research linking AS to the gut microbiome is mounting.
While its causes appear to be multifactorial because they aren’t fully understood, new research in the last 5 years is pointing to the gut microbiome as an environmental factor in the development of this disease.
Gut microbiota (the trillions of microorganisms that call your gut home) perform critical functions in the development of AS, and by extension the reversal of AS, through various mechanisms. These include interacting with genes (like HLA-B27) to switch them on or off, increasing intestinal permeability (also called leaky gut syndrome) and activating the gut mucosa to trigger autoimmunity.
A recent review of studies that support the Gut - AS connection was published in Frontiers in Immunology (2022) demonstrating that the occurrence and development of AS are related to changes in the diversity and composition of the gut microbiome.
Led by Zi-Yi Song, this study describes 3 possible mechanisms for how the gut microbiome promotes the development of AS. Read the study here.
The takeaway from this comprehensive review of the research is that because the gut microbiome impacts gene switching, gut permeability and regulates the immune system, it may be a prime mover in the development of the autoimmune condition, AS.
In another 2022 study, published in Arthritis Research & Therapy, a team led by P.R. Sternes explored the correlation of inflammatory bowel disease with ankylosing spondylitis. They concluded that the gut plays a different role in driving AS compared with IBD but that the evidence in development of both diseases suggests that the presence of a shared/common microbial trigger of disease cannot be discounted.
While the link between Ankylosing Spondylitis and the gut microbiome is still a burgeoning field, the evidence is already painting a compelling picture. Namely that a focus on balancing your gut microbiome may be the first promising path forward to recovery that you’ve been looking for.
Over the last decade in my work coaching clients one on one, I've honed the following system for relieving autoimmune diseases of all kinds, including AS. Here is the simple blueprint, containing the fewest steps for the fastest recovery in the shortest amount of time.
Do whatever it takes to clear the biggest channel of elimination every day. With joint pain, you'll feel, right away, the difference that increasing your output of stool makes. Take 1-2 teaspoons Tumtree Prebiotic Gut Sponge mixed in juice or water. If you haven't had a bowel movement in the last 24 hrs, you might take a capsule of vegetable laxative like cascara sagrada or senna leaf as well. If you’re uncomfortable enough, doing an overnight GI cleanse with Gut Sponge is recommended. Each bowel movement will bring another leap forward in relief to your back and achy joints.
Avoid all sweets, dairy and baked goods from refined grains (anything that spikes insulin) until the area heals. Focus on lots of veggies, clean animal protein and healthy fat (nuts, seeds, avos, coconut products). Elevated insulin means elevated inflammation, and sweet also feeds mold and fungus which are not the microbes you want to encourage.
While you're eating well and avoiding sugary foods, hit it hard with Tumtree’s 30 Day Reboot to clear the gut of all bad bacteria, mold, yeasts and fungus. If this isn’t your first go round with inflamed joints, and especially if antibiotic use preceded your pain, consider stepping up to a full 30 day Reboot to alkalize and restore balance to all your mucous membranes, especially those that line your moveable joints. Your satisfaction is always guaranteed, or your money back. (A guarantee you won't get from your doctor or pharmacy.)
Glutamine cuts recovery time for muscle repair AND it restores proper permeability to the inner lining of the gut which is important for proper immune function. Torn, pulled or sprained muscles and ligaments respond noticeably to leveling up your glutamine stores as well. For more on the benefits of supplemental Glutamine, Click Here.
Once you’ve cleared off some real estate inside the gut, begin supplementing heavily with Tumtree’s Probiotic Blend to restore a robust population of the friendly bacteria that protect your gut lining and properly regulate the immune system. By the time you've been diagnosed with an autoimmune condition, you may already be sensitive to fermented foods which can contain small amounts of alcohol. For the first 30 days, a non fermented source of friendly bacteria is recommended.

New Gastroenterology research finds prebiotics prevent obesity in children by altering the gut microbiome (composition of bacteria). The research published in Gastroenterology, suggests there may be new tools coming in the fight against childhood obesity, one of the most prevalent and costly conditions afflicting children in the developed world.
“This is a well-designed trial that demonstrates how a prebiotic could potentially help combat obesity — by targeting the gut microbiome,” said Geoffrey A. Preidis, MD, PhD, a member of the AGA Center for Gut Microbiome Research and Education scientific advisory board. “It is promising to see this evidence that alteration of the gut microbiota can be used to restore health. As a clinician, I hope that continued research into prebiotics will lead to a new strategy for the treatment of obesity.”
“Powdered fiber, mixed in a water bottle, taken once a day is all we asked the children to change, and we got, what we consider, some pretty exciting results — it has been fantastic,” added Raylene A. Reimer, PhD, RD, professor and researcher in the Faculty of Kinesiology at University of Calgary, who led the study.
This is the first randomized controlled study to look at changes in gut microbial composition with prebiotic intervention in children who are overweight and obese. Excess weight in childhood tends to persist into adulthood and is an early risk factor for obesity-associated morbidity and mortality, highlighting the importance of early intervention.
The findings from this study provide a promising foundation for further research among a broader population. Meanwhile prebiotics are inexpensive and noninvasive and are an easy treatment in overweight or obese children that can safely be used even before further research is done. Read the full report here
Prebiotics are indigestible dietary fibers that probiotic bacteria use as a source of fuel to flourish, grow and proliferate. Made up of non-living organic matter, prebiotics are basically the main food source that nourishes the beneficial bacteria lining your gut. Since the 1990's when the term Prebiotic was coined, numerous studies have shown that maintaining adequate prebiotic intake has many potential benefits that include:
And we might also add, combating childhood obesity.

]]>Often, people don't know what brought on their wrist pain, but if a round of antibiotics preceded the symptoms, you can suspect an imbalance in the friendly microbiota covering the synovial lining in your wrists and hands to be involved. One thing your doctor should know is that carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms can happen due to conditions like hypothyroidism, obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, and diabetes, which also have their origin in the gut.
A 2017 study published in JAMA, showed that steroid injections are not helpful for joint pain and finally confirms what many researchers have been saying for years. When the researchers compared results of 140 osteoarthritis patients, those who received steroids AND those who received placebo (saline) saw no significant difference in joint pain at any time during the two-year period. Thanks to the placebo effect, pain did decrease a bit in all patients. But there were no changes in joint functioning, stiffness, or flexibility.
Fungal arthritis is caused by organisms like Candida, Aspergillus, or Exserohilum species traveling through the bloodstream to set up camp in the joint. Whether encouraged by infection through the blood or injection through a contaminated instrument or med, fungal arthritis can be the result. According to a medical studies review by the National Institutes of Health, Musculoskeletal Infection by fungi was once rare, but its incidence has increased in the past few years. (link to Review, NIH)
Some risk factors for elevating fungus levels in the body are the use of broad spectrum antibiotics, chronic emotional stress, repeated use of steroids OR nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory meds (Ibuprofen, Relifen, Naproxen) and a high sugar diet. To learn more about how these risk factors play out in your body see, What Causes Leaky Gut? 8 Risk Factors to Know.
Your immune system is only as healthy as your mucous membranes. They bear the tremendous task of keeping the outside world out of your bloodstream AND keeping your inner juices IN and running smoothly... including your moveable joints. They are your frontline of defense against invaders in the food, air and water you take into your body. In addition to lining all body cavities that make contact with the outside world, they line and cradle organs, holding them in place and creating lubrication to keep your innards moving comfortably as you move about your day.
How Healthy Mucous Membranes Keep You Well
All your moveable joints have a soft tissue lining (mucosa) located between the joint capsule and the joint cavity called the synovial membrane. This same kind of membrane also lines moveable tendon sheaths and bursae, and it secretes a juicy synovial fluid which fills the joint cavity and lubricates the joint. But if this mucosa becomes inflamed, infected or impinged, we call it arthritis (inflammation of the joint) and now you have joint pain.
If you’ve done a dance with chronic back pain, hip pain or wrist pain and have not found satisfactory relief yet, consider a 30 day challenge to the potentially overgrown fungus and other invasive species of microbiota residing in your mucous membranes. If the thought of fungus growing inside your body grosses you out, step back a minute and consider that everyone on the planet, including the robustly healthy among us has a limited number of yeast/fungi living in the mucous membranes of their body. Friendly bacteria, an alkaline diet and a peaceful existence all serve to keep the friendly organisms in control. But, any one of 8 different risk factors can upset the balance and tip your chemistry in favor of fungus.
The infection sometimes occurs as a result Recipes that cut inflammationof fungal infection in another organ such as the lungs, the digestive tract, skin or nails and tends to get worse very slowly. The large joints like knees and hips are most often affected, but wrist pain and hand pain aren't far behind. And people with weakened immune systems who travel or live in areas where lots of people suffer from similar symptoms (an ‘endemic area’) are more susceptible to most causes of fungal arthritis. Fungal infection elsewhere in the body can affect digestive, respiration, skin conditions, allergies and fatigue… all in addition to the joint pain you've been feeling. And now, a few surprising things you can do to relieve ongoing lower back pain at it's root.
Over the last decade in my work coaching clients one on one, I've honed the following system for relieving both acute cases of joint pain (a disk slips that puts you down for the count), and the chronic kind where inflammation causes wrist pain or hand pain that just doesn't stop.
For all cases of joint pain, do whatever it takes clear the biggest channel of elimination every day. With back pain, you'll feel right away the difference increasing your output of stool makes. Take 1-2 teaspoons Exodus GI Sponge mixed in juice or water. If you haven't had a bowel movement in the last 24 hrs, you might take a capsule of vegetable laxative like cascara sagrada or senna leaf as well. If you’re uncomfortable enough, doing an overnight GI cleanse with Exodus is recommended.
Elevated insulin means elevated inflammation, and sweet also feeds fungus.
If this isn’t your first go round with inflamed joints, and especially if antibiotic use preceded your wrist pain, consider stepping up to a 30 day Reboot to alkalize and restore balance to all your mucous membranes, especially those that line your moveable joints. Your satisfaction is always guaranteed, or your money back. (A guarantee you won't get from your doctor or pharmacy.)
Glutamine cuts recovery time for muscle repair whether the muscle is being regenerated due to strenuous exercise or because there’s been a formal injury to the wrist. Torn, pulled or sprained muscles and ligaments respond noticeably to leveling up your glutamine stores. For more on the benefits of supplemental Glutamine, Click Here.
Calcium not only aids in the repair of injured joint components but is an acid buffering mineral that has an alkalizing effect on the body. It’s also known as ‘nature's anesthetic’. Take double the daily RDA for the first 2 weeks of your Reboot to feed the need for this alkalizing mineral. I recommend calcium citrate as it's easily absorbable in the body.
Working on a muscle in spasm and applying heat may also bring relief. For a sprained wrist, elevate the injury for the first few hours and send loving thoughts to the site. Icing the injury has not been a beneficial part of this system. If your doctor has other suggestions like splinting and slinging, certainly take them into consideration. Within the first 7-10 days of cleaning out your fungal overgrowth you'll know you're on the right path and the pain and pressure will lift significantly.
The Buzz on Wrist Pain:
Getting rid of yeast has helped so many issues in my family from allergies to eczema and asthma. However, the most dramatic result was from some chronic joint pain. I had horrible wrist pain in both wrists for four years. I couldn't even push myself out of bed in the morning or bend my wrists at all. I had an MRI on the wrists and the doctor found cysts in between the joints.
When I asked what the cysts were, he really couldn't give me an answer. I firmly believed that the cysts were pockets of yeast. I started on the Reboot protocol from Tumtree and within a month, four years of pain was gone! I no longer have any pain in my joints. A few month Tumtree products and the hip pain went away. Too many people live with joint pain and just blame it on old age or arthritis. You don't have to live with pain! -- Shari Goodman, Mesa AZ

Keep reading to learn more, including what a leaky gut is, why it is important to understand, and how to heal it!
First, to make sure we are all on the same page, let’s quickly answer the question “what is leaky gut?”
Leaky gut is a condition that many people may not have heard of, but it's gaining attention in the media as research links it to a variety of health concerns. As the name suggests, it has to do with your gut, or more specifically, your intestines.
The human body has an extensive intestinal lining that covers more than 4,000 square feet of surface area. When it's working properly this surface area forms a tight barrier to control what gets absorbed into the bloodstream and blocks out harmful substances like toxins or bacteria. An unhealthy gut lining may have large cracks or holes, allowing partially digested food to penetrate the tissues beneath it.
This is a recipe for disaster which can trigger inflammation and changes in your gut flora, which could lead you down the path to many different health problems, including digestive tract issues!
We all have some degree of leaky gut because the barrier lining in our intestines is not completely impenetrable. But don’t worry! It’s supposed to be that way.
However, there are several factors that cause the permeability in our gut lining to increase, which leads to a long list of uncomfortable symptoms.
In fact, the modern lifestyle, medical practices and especially the modern diet, are the main drivers of leaky gut issues.
The standard American diet, which is low in fiber and high in sugar can begin to disrupt the body's natural balance. Heavy alcohol use and stress also disrupt the balance of bacteria within the digestive tract , increasing the gaps in the gut lining and leading to increased permeability or leaky gut.
Every person's timeline for healing a leaky gut is unique based on how severe your leaky gut is, your age, overall health, exercise, etc.
Your diet plays a HUGE role.
But it can be tricky discerning which of the dozen “recommended” diets for leaky gut is the best leaky gut diet plan for you? It’s not clear from an online search, and it can be downright dismaying.
The truth is, there are no “5 magic foods" that will heal your leaky gut.
It takes a comprehensive protocol involving not only what you eat, but what you avoid eating as well. And while you're eating clean and healthy, you'll want to correct imbalances in your gut microbiome and include specific nutrients that heal the gut as quickly as possible.
A viable leaky gut diet plan pairs a healthy diet or meal plan with a few key leaky gut supplements that cut inflammation and speed heal the bowel.
In my 25 years as a natural health coach assisting thousands of people to heal leaky gut, I’ve learned some important patterns that can guide you as you uncover your healing diet. And it doesn’t need to take months, but rather just a few days to know you’re on the right track.
The ideal diet for healing leaky gut is a nutrient-dense, dairy-free, quasi keto diet, meaning that it’s low in simple sugars and grains but high in healthy fats, plant and animal proteins, and vivid colors.
But it's also free of foods that are triggering your inflammation right now. The food combinations for my recommended leaky gut diet plan are endless and the flavors are fresh and interesting. Here’s a look at what you’ll want to eat each day:
Let’s break these down a bit more:
Your body will heal best on a plant-based diet, loaded with complex carbohydrates from vegetables and leafy greens that are also rich in plant fats and proteins. These foods will supply the needed building materials to heal your body (and skin) from the inside out as quickly as possible.
For children, and for adults who do not wish to lose any weight, include non-gluten grains like millet, quinoa, buckwheat, and gluten-free oat bran or oatmeal in the diet. These grains will offer essential B vitamins and provide enough carbohydrates to maintain body weight. If you are interested in losing weight just avoid these until you’ve reached your target weight, then bring these non-allergenic grains back into your diet.
Animal protein doesn’t need to be organic, grass-fed, or free-range to heal you, but cleaner is better. So if you can afford it, it is recommended. Regardless, avoid completely all processed deli meat, bacon, and hotdogs loaded with preservatives and fillers for the best results. The easiest way to think about it is to stick with what comes right off the animal.
Animal protein is surprisingly easier for the body to digest than plant protein and requires only stomach acid to digest, whereas plant protein requires significantly more work to free nutrients from the cellulose fibers that hold it together. Plant protein also requires the proper levels of pancreatic enzymes for digestion which typically aren’t fully in line with leaky gut/inflammatory skin conditions. Your pancreas will get back there eventually, and when it does, you’ll feel more sustained energy without the animal protein.
All low-sugar foods are anti-inflammatory, and so are healthy fats. You can reduce inflammation in your body, including your skin, by eating fatty fish. They’re rich in high-quality protein and heart-healthy anti-inflammatory omega-3 fats. Bake or grill a filet of wild-caught, fatty fish to serve over a salad or alongside roasted vegetables.
You can also use your favorite canned fish mixed with mayo, herbs, and spices to stuff lettuce wraps, avocado, or celery sticks.
In general, it’s recommended that you get at least 250 mg of omega-3 fatty acids daily, preferably from food. If you don’t care for fish, consider taking an omega-3 supplement.
Here’s a list of additional sources of healthy fats:
Using my protocol for healing the body of allergic conditions, my clients are able to experience accelerated recovery while still enjoying one serving of low-sugar fruit per day. I recommend savoring it in the evening after dinner (kind of like dessert) or in the morning over keto granola with coconut cream. Delish!
Choose half a cup of berries, or a medium-sized plum, kiwi, clementine, or peach.
Here’s a quick list of low sugar fruit ideas:
The lowest sugar fruits are listed first. Fruits that are simply too high in sugars to eat, without initiating more inflammation aren’t on the list.
That’s a start to help you visualize your ideal diet for healing leaky gut fast. But to sharpen your understanding, we cover the five important food groups you'll want to avoid next.
Keep in mind that this isn’t forever. Just for the first 14 days.
After that, you can challenge one food every couple of days to discover whether or not it’s triggering your symptoms.
Yep, my friend. You can definitely do this!
Here’s the shortlist of five trigger foods to avoid to feel better fast:
Without exception, when healing a leaky gut the first three are a must to avoid. The last two may or may not be problem foods for you, so test these at the end of your first two weeks.
Begin by avoiding the foods on the list above for the first 14 days. Two weeks is the length of time it takes to completely rid the body of certain trigger foods. For example, breast milk contains traces of cow milk protein for up to 14 days after a mother ingests it.
These first three foods on the list are the basis for the standard American diet, and all five can be found in nearly every processed packaged or canned food you find on grocery store shelves in western civilization. This makes it a little harder to avoid these foods, but it also forms the foundation of a healthy diet. You’ll need to be checking labels to become familiar with which food brands are free of these five common foods, which also happen to be common food allergies.
Additionally, it is important to avoid foods that spike insulin. Sweet foods also feed pathogens like candida yeast, mold fungus, bad bacteria, and viruses that lead to a wide variety of health issues and concerns. Sugars include all sweeteners, including honey and maple syrup, along with artificial sweeteners like sucralose (Splenda) and aspartame. Use only stevia to sweeten for the first 2 weeks. You’re allowed one serving of low sugar fruit per day so you may want to eat it fresh, close your eyes and savor it as your sweet treat each day.
In addition to the five common trigger foods above, there may be additional foods that you’ve noticed are triggers for you. For example, if you know that peanuts, shellfish, or fresh garden tomatoes make your throat scratchy or cause a skin flare-up, add those to your “avoid” list for the first two weeks. The aim here is to get clear of all your identifiable triggers that cause inflammation. Inflammation is bad for the body, inside and out, and likely manifests as skin issues.
Additional trigger foods may be:
Once you’ve completely avoided a trigger food for 14 days, you can “challenge” the food to see how your body reacts to it. However, after avoiding a specific food for 14 days, you may feel so good you don’t want to risk the possibility of inflammation from challenging a certain food, and that’s great! That was the case in my recovery from multiple food allergies. However, if you’ve never noticed a problem with popcorn, cheese, or edamame (soy) for example, you can challenge one of them after taking a two-week break with a simple test called the Pulse Test (described below). It’s important to not challenge more than one food every 48 hours.
The Pulse Test is a simple test you can do on your own at home.
Here’s a quick overview of the Pulse Test:
If you’d like to use the Pulse Test to challenge foods you’ve been avoiding, you’ll want to perform the test first thing in the morning. To do this, you’ll need to place the food you are challenging within reach of your bed the night before.
Without getting out of bed, check and record your resting heart rate. Take a bite of the challenge food in its purest form. For example, a corn chip, wheat cracker, or a little soy sauce. Again, make sure you place the food within reach the night before so you don’t have to get out of bed. Wait in bed for 15-20 minutes. Then check for an elevated heart rate.
Sensitive foods will put your immune system on alert, even if they don’t show up on an allergy panel or conventional scratch test. An elevated heart rate tells you that your immune system has been activated and confirms this food is a problem for your body right now. If you experience an elevated heart rate when challenging a food, add that food to your "avoid" list. If you do not experience an elevated heart rate, then you can add the food to your “approved” list.
I hope this information cuts through the noise for you on how to heal increased intestinal permeability or leaky gut.

There are myriad causes of painful sex that medical websites are talking about. These range from psychological and relationship factors to latex and spermicide allergies. But there’s one cause of painful sex that none of them are addressing and it’s time to shine a light on it.
In this article, I’ll go over common causes of pain or burning during and after sex, plus one cause you won’t find elsewhere, along with preventative measures you can take for each.
And one cause of painful sex medical websites aren't talking about, is
Dyspareunia, (pronounced dis-pah-ROO-nee-uh) affects millions of women of all ages and is especially common after menopause when hormones taper off. Although none of the conditions listed above are life-threatening, the discomfort they cause can certainly put a damper on things.
This condition not only ruins sexual desire and enjoyment, it can also strain relationships and erode your quality of life.
If you’ve experienced uncomfortable pain or burning during or after intimacy, here's a rundown of some causes and suggestions for how to approach each one. Life’s too short for unnecessary suffering and marital bonds need strengthening today more than ever.
In many cases, vaginal burning results from insufficient lubrication or too much friction too soon.
They may also be unaware that their body is designed by God for pleasure during intimacy. Open communication makes it easier to experiment and find out what you like and what really works. But if you’re unable to communicate effectively, you might find help from sex therapy or couples counseling. You can also begin to see your own sexuality more holistically by following a trusted mentor on free podcast platforms. Lisa Brothersen and Jennifer Finlayson-Fife are PhD's in family and sex therapy who we've benefitted from as a couple.
You might also consider getting more immediate results working with an alternative therapist versed in emotional release or energy therapy to clear the blocks keeping you from being able to share this part of you with your mate. If you want practice asking for what you need, learn how to have a needs conversation with your man, here.
Couples who know, will tell you that when it comes to sex, men are like microwaves. They can be ready to perform about as fast as you can nuke a poptart. Women on the other hand are like convection ovens. They may need about 20 times longer than poptarts to “preheat” before they’re ready to go. This may not always be possible, but as often as you can, set aside the time you need to warm up with some non-penetrating soft touch intimacy first.
A UTI isn’t pleasant, and it’s one of the most common causes of burning after sex. Sexual activity can irritate the urinary tract, leading to inflammation and uncomfortable burning sensations. According to the Mayo Clinic, most UTIs affect the bladder and urethra, but they can also infect the kidneys, too, leading to internal pain rather than just vaginal pain. Source.
Other symptoms include frequent or painful stinging at urination, cloudy or pink urine, pain in your pelvic and areas and strong-smelling urine. When the infection targets your kidney, you may also experience symptoms similar to the flu - like fever, nausea and vomiting. Some of these UTI symptoms are similar to yeast infections, but UTIs do not have the typical whitish discharge of a yeast infection. Yeast infections can be passed back and forth between partners, so treatment is important.
If you’re susceptible to urinary tract infections, you might get several over your lifetime, especially when you first become sexually active. Women are at greater risk of developing UTIs according to the Mayo Clinic, possibly due to hormonal changes or the shorter length of urethra to bladder and the use of birth control. However, you can take a few steps to reduce the likelihood of UTIs. This includes washing before and after sex and urinating after sex, which helps to remove bacteria from the vulva and urethra.
When you find yourself with a UTI or a yeast infection, I recommend using Tumtree's Reboot instead of broad spectrum antibiotic or yeast medication. The 5 point protocol will restore balance to your microbiome, clearing away overgrown bacteria and yeast at the same time…while restoring a healthy flora … and relieving burning after sex too!
A number of sexually transmitted infections create a burning sensation after you contract them, both after sex and during breakouts. If your pain persists well after sex or after you’ve removed possibly problematic materials from the area, it may be an STI. (ie. Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Herpes or Trichomoniasis)
Sticking with just one sexual partner, and using condoms provide moderate protection against STI’s, but if your pain isn’t relieved by any of the above suggestions and you have visible or palpable sores, schedule an appointment with your doctor right away. There’s far more at risk than an uncomfortable sensation after sex. So it’s good to get it diagnosed.
STDs/STIs are either viral or bacterial Both can be addressed by the powerful anti-pathogenic herbs in Tumtree Reboot. Read more about Viral infections and Bacterial Infections here and consider this protocol alongside whatever your doctor recommends.
General inflammation of the vagina and vulva is known as vaginitis, and this inflammation can certainly lead to painful intercourse and burning after sex. Itching and discharge are common side effects of this inflammation as well. Vaginitis can result from an upset in the pH balance or bacteria levels in the vagina; although, a doctor may not be able to pinpoint a specific cause. Hormone changes, menopause and certain medications, including some antidepressants contribute to lack of natural lubricant in the vagina.
The gut microbiome is actually the seedbed of acid/alkaline balance in the body, along with controlling the permeability of all the soft, permeable linings of inside you. What Tumtree Reboot does is clear your microbial gardens… all over the body, of acid producing microbes that push your natural pH down to the acid end, when your health pH is really right in the middle of the pH scale at 7.2. This is all to say that moderate overgrowth of one class of microbiota in the gut can upset the pH balance in the vagina and elsewhere.
I want to talk about one other cause of painful sex that I can’t find anyone addressing on medical websites or anywhere else online.
The cause of burning after sex that no one's talking about is when semen burns your skin.
If you identify that your discomfort comes only right after ejaculation, you may be experiencing a phenomenon that's not yet named in the medical community accept to call it “semen allergy”. This is super uncomfortable for the woman, but when semen becomes acidic enough, it can also burn his skin too. And in reality, it may not be an allergy at all.
I once asked a female family practice MD about semen that burns and she'd never heard of it. But lot's of couples are concerned about it. I came across a dozen questions in Quora on this very topic recently. So people are definitely looking for answers.
Signs and symptoms of true semen allergy include redness, burning and swelling wherever the semen has contacted the skin, from inside the vagina to the outer genital area. Some people may even have a systemic response, including hives, itching and difficulty breathing. If you experience these signs and symptoms, see your doctor.
But if you don’t have signs of a systemic response to your mates semen. Meaning it only burns on contact, consider that his semen has become too acidic and the acid level is what’s burning your skin.
A few years ago, my husband and I experienced this problem and I’ve since talked with other women who've been frustrated by it too. We used condoms for a few weeks just to limit the contact with my skin. Then he agreed to do an alkalizing 30 day challenge with me.
Because I had no other sensitivities or allergies I was aware of, I thought there was a good chance alkalizing his body was all we needed. I did the challenge with him which is much more fun than doing it alone.
What fixed the problem for us completely, was alkalizing with 30 Day Reboot from Tumtree. Over the process of a month, he was able to restore the proper pH to his body, and no more burning semen. During this 30 day program, bitter herbs and nutrients are removing the overgrowth of microscopic organisms that generate acid in the bloodstream and lower the pH of body fluids (making them more caustic and acidic).
Not only did intimacy become much more fun, but we also dropped unwanted weight and primed our immune systems for optimal function.
So, the problem with semen that burns may not be with you at all girlfriend. Talk with your man about doing a Reboot together to:
Feeling a little "uncoupled" from your mate of late? Like you're living two separate lives and don't know each other like you once did? Relationship help is minutes away, and more importantly, you are not alone!
A 2018 Pew Research Center survey found that 1 in 10 Americans say they feel lonely or isolated from those around them all or most of the time. It's an uneasy feeling to be out of step with those you love, but it may be a relief to know that you're not the only ones. In fact, it's actually normal to experience your marriage this way. Dr. Gary Brown, a licensed family and marriage therapist in Los Angeles explains, “Even in the very best of relationships, there are going to be those times when one or both partners may have drifted apart and feel somewhat distant and estranged from one another,” he says.
The forces working against couples today will, without some intentional counter measures, draw you apart. And the reason I'm talking about this is because I care about your body chemistry ... and you should too!
It's numero uno important to healing your body.
Relationship stress predisposes you to all the symptoms of Leaky Gut Syndrome, and loneliness has a chemical imprint that's a form of stress all its own. So whatever you and I can do to relieve stress and loneliness in our relationships is a top priority right to help you heal.
Mountain Man and I have been married for 35 years. We've raised 9 kids and built and then buried several small businesses. There have been good years and some really difficult years. And like most couples, at times we've felt less on the same page than we once were.
So we attended our first Marriage Seminar and learned this cool technique for syncing up and getting back in step in just 3 minutes a day. And it's stayed with us, 3+ years now.
In 2018, Harvard Natural Sciences Dept demonstrated an exercise in "linear dynamics" that physicists in the 1600's had already uncovered. In the demonstration, five metronomes are set to a certain frequency but all at different phases and are placed on a Foam Core board. No energy or information passes between them and they keep on ticking to their own cadence.
But when empty soda cans are placed underneath, the board is free to move from side to side and the metronomes are able to influence each other into synchronization. They actually get in sync with each other by swaying gently.
And you know what's even more amazing? Even if the metronomes are set to entirely different frequencies, they still sync up when they sway.
But, note this part. When the cans are removed, the metronomes are no longer physically coupled and all of them begin to fall out of step again. Which is why it's important to sync up Every. Single. Day. (you'll see.)
Most marriages begins with starry eyes and a crisp picture of how totally amazing it's going to be to be married. And some of those expectations may naturally become your reality. But other expectations will be disappointed...because neither of you could see clearly what marriage and family would really require. It has to unfold as you go.
Pretty soon you may discover that you don't actually share the same mind and for a mixed bag of reasons ...your views are more fixed than flexible, and you begin to feel out of step, or uncoupled. You both no longer march to the beat of the same drum and just like the metronomes, less energy or information flows between the two of you.
You may even feel after a few years or a few children, that you no longer "know" each other. Remember that even in the very best relationships, there will be times...
One way to bring your hearts and heads back in sync as you learn to appreciate and work with your differences is to spend 3 minutes a day "coupling up". A mother knows that rocking a crying baby will bring comfort and belonging to her child. Well, it works for big people too! Even for two who aren't sure how much they like each other right now. (If that happens to be your case.) Do this first and it will open doors for deeper exploration and connection.
It's an elementary law of physics. Apply linear dynamics with your significant other by "Swaying" every day and you'll feel a shift together. Here's how it works. (Yes, these step by step instructions are necessary.
1) No Griping.
2) No Groping.
3) Just Sway.
You can talk about your day or this Sway afterwards. You're just holding each other, getting 'off the ground' and swaying to the music. This is linear dynamics helping your relationship on the daily. And every partner relationship is worth the time it takes.
#1 Don’t wait until you both feel like it, or until there’s nothing else going on. Prioritize swaying right when you see each other at the beginning or end of your work day and establish the daily habit.
#2 Have a handful of chill sway songs ready to play on your smart phone or start your own “Swaylist” of favorites. Nostalgia from your teenage years or when you both were dating can influence you into synchronization too! ("Reminiscing" by The Little River Band tops my list right now. )
#3 Warning: this may actually feel awkward the first few times. Especially if you haven't danced together for a thousand years. Just lean into the pain, and everything will be alright. SO worth it! Leave a comment below or message me on Social Media. I'd love to hear how it goes!
And remember, this is for posterity so... be honest! 💃🏻🕺
In 2018, the CDC reported that 22.4 million people went to the doctor to treat diseases of the digestive system. But that's not all. Another 8.3 million landed in the emergency room with digestive system distress as the primary diagnosis.
And those are just the people who were diagnosed and getting treatment...
Millions of others suffer in silence from a range of digestive disorders… many of which don’t have a diagnosis.
There’s a huge problem with this (besides the fact that so many people are in pain).
Your gut is the seat of your immune system, where approximately 80% of your immune cells are produced. The gut also provides a physical barrier to invaders that enter your body through the food, air and water you take into your body. That is, as long as it's healthy and retains it's proper permeability.
No amount of social distancing or hand sanitizing or mask wearing is as impactful in your health outcomes as the status of your gut. It's the last barrier to infections and your precious internal organs.
Poor digestive health means poor immunity. Period.
And we all need powerful immune systems -- now more than ever.
The good news is, you don’t have to venture to a doctor’s office to start healing your gut and strengthening your immune system.
There are plenty of small changes you can make TODAY from the comfort of your own home.
These include:
Train your bowels to take the garbage out every day. When body toxins and metabolic waste have a way out of the body you’ll think more clearly, feel lighter and obtain more energy from the food you eat.
This is the next step, to restore balance to all your mucous membranes by removing excess yeast, low grade viral infection, bad bacteria and other parasites from the body. These are responsible for all that gut distress, elevated acids and alcohols in your bloodstream that make your brain foggy and inflamed AND they can be moved out! All bitter and spicy herbs have antifungal and antibacterial qualities. But people rarely eat much of these by design. Bitter creates a natural counterbalance to sweets. And we have a blend that beats them all.
The fastest way to heal increased permeability of the bowels, respiratory tract, urinary tract, reproductive system and synovial membranes of the joints is to provide ample supply of the building blocks needed. Glutamine is responsible for muscle, joint and membrane repair. Cut your healing time in half by supplementing with this conditionally essential amino acid.
Healthy mucous membranes including the gut rely on a robust population of friendly bacteria to protect them from invasion by unfriendly pathogens. Antibiotics, stress and use of steroid and NSAID drugs decrease your population of friendly flora and increase permeability of mucosal linings. If fermented foods make you feel sick, find a source of prebiotic and probiotic supplements to bolster your good bacterial community.
Never be hungry. Get faster, sustainable immune strength by feeding your body lots of fresh vegetables, clean animal protein and limiting your consumption of sugar including refined grains and allergenic dairy products. Try our NEW Reboot Recipes Cookbook for sugar-free, diary-free and wheat-free recipes for real people on the go.
With these 5 objectives in place: daily bowel movement, cleansing unwanted pathogens from the body, repairing the damaged lining of the bowel and other lubricating membranes, restoring a healthy population of friendly bacteria and offering your body proper nutritional support for wellness, you’ll be primed for optimal immune system function against whatever the future brings.
For 20 years Tumtree has offerred auto-immune repair solutions to those in need, with a clear path and doable steps at an affordable price.

Let's do what is in our power to armor up our defenses against disease of all sorts.
Plus, you'll look and feel better than you have in years … guaranteed.
A new study says that husbands and wives who fight, are more likely to suffer from a leaky gut.
To investigate how an unhappy marriage can affect an individual's health, scientists at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center recruited 43 healthy couples between 24 to 61 years old who had been married for at least three years.
Dr. Donald Kirby, director of the Center for Human Nutrition at the Cleveland Clinic, told WebMD that symptoms include bloating, gas, cramps, sensitivity to foods as well as aching and pain. He said of the little-understood condition: "Leaky gut really means you've got a diagnosis that still needs to be made."
Read More: What is Leaky Gut?
How to Know if I Have It and What Causes It?
The leakage of substances into the bloodstream is likely caused by malfunctioning junctions in the gut that influence what passes through the lining of the small intestine.
In the Ohio State University study, scientists found the highest levels of LPS-binding protein in participants who had the nastiest fights and a history of mood disorders such as depression. The biomarker was also linked to inflammation in the body.
"We think that this everyday marital distress—at least for some people—is causing changes in the gut that lead to inflammation and potentially, illness.
"Marital stress is a particularly potent stress, because your partner is typically your primary support and in a troubled marriage your partner becomes your major source of stress."

Dr. Michael Bailey, associate professor of biosciences at Ohio State University and co-author of the study, explained that stress, the sympathetic nervous system and changes to microbes in the gut appear to be linked. "With leaky gut, the structures that are usually really good at keeping the gunk in our gut—the partially digested food, bacteria and other products—degrade and that barrier becomes less effective," he said.
In turn, bacteria triggering inflammation in the blood could lead to mental illness in what Bailey described as a troubling loop. And as the participants were relatively young and inflammation worsens with age, older couples could suffer more, the researchers said.
The good news is, there are proven reliable steps you can take to heal your leaky gut, AND if you're ready to learn something you didn't suppose before, there's still a lot of useful road to travel in understanding some basic differences between men and women that are responsible for so much relationship stress.
Keep your "Eyebrows Up" and your mind open, because no matter how many years you've been frustrated by your efforts to improve your life, walking more peacefully with the people in it, is entirely possible.
Hormone imbalance is one of the most common conditions I see in my work with women as a Leaky Gut Coach. In this post you’ll learn about 8 common symptoms of hormone imbalance in women ages 16 to 60 and what you can do to help yourself (and them) to greater wellbeing.
A womans menstrual periods may become erratic because of the fluctuating hormonal levels in her body. Once a woman attains menopause her periods stop completely, a condition known as amenorrhea.
It’s only when a woman does not menstruate for a full year that she’s considered to have reached menopause. More and more women however are experiencing premature menopause in their 30s and 40s, instead of at midlife in their 50s.
If you are experiencing premature menopause, you might consider stepping up to a 30 day Reboot of your microbiome to restore your reproductive health, and also to clear the brain fog, fatigue, insomnia, headaches and digestive issues that may accompany your early menopause. Hear from women in their 30s and 40s who’ve regained reproductive ability by clicking here.
There are at least 6 different hormones that participate in creating a good night sleep for you: estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, insulin, cortisol, melatonin, and thyroid hormones. When production of any one of these drop, you can experience sleeplessness. During peri-menopause and menopause, the ovaries gradually produce less estrogen and progesterone, which promotes sleep. Falling estrogen levels may also contribute to night sweats that wake you up, contributing to fatigue and lack of energy. What's more, several of these hormones are produced by the body only when you are deeply sleeping, so a vicious cycle ensues.
If you've taken all the recommended pre-sleep measures like keeping your bedroom cool and dark, exercising during the day, reducing alcohol and caffeine intake and turning off all screens an hour before bedtime, and still sleep evades you... You might consider resetting all your hormones with a 30 day reboot of your gut microbiome.
All it takes to put your delicate hormones out of balance is a sustained period of emotional stress, where adrenaline is continually being released into the bloodstream. Adrenaline affects the gut directly by lowering the pH making it more acidic which is unfavorable for friendly bacteria to colonize. In this way, stress destroys friendly flora without antibiotic use. And when invasive yeast, mold and fungus move into their place, fragile hormone balance is easily compromised.
If you've been under sustained stress, your sleeplessness could very well be linked with your gut microbiome. Whenever friendly flora die (however it happens) the acids and alcohols from neighboring species destroy the metabolic pathways for many hormones required for a satisfying sleep.
For example, ethanol, an alcohol secreted by candida yeast not only destroys dopamine, but converts testosterone into estrogen and upends other fragile hormones so they are unrecognizable to receptor cites and can no longer perform their function in the body. Read about proper sleep returning to people who focus on the gut microbiome for 30 days. Sleeplessness Reviews.
These symptoms are associated with a deficiency of estrogen and are commonly seen in the peri-menopause phase (whatever your age). My experience having passed through this phase is that night sweats and hot flashes are totally optional and not a necessary part of peri-menopause. They are strongly linked with feeding candida yeast overgrowth in the body. Just as an alcohol drinker can experience night sweats immediately after drinking and up to 7 days later as a form of alcohol withdrawal, the alcohol produced when your own microbiome is fed concentrated sugars has the same effect. The alcohol destroys hormones left and right. If night sweats are your reality, notice if you’ve consumed simple carbohydrates in the 24 hrs prior to the hot flashes or night sweats. If so, it’s time for a tune up of your microbial garden.
If you've had a normal blood flow during your periods, but then they progress into unusually heavy flow it's a sign of hormonal imbalance. It is caused when the level of estrogen is too high compared to the level of progesterone. (Remember how ethanol from yeast can convert your testosterone (yes, women have it too) into estrogen. Hear from women who’ve restored a normal flow during menstruation.
Almost 80% of all cases of osteoporosis are observed in postmenopausal women whether they're 35 or 60+. Scientists attribute this to a sudden fall in the level of estrogen after menopause. But it also can be attributed to the effect of elevated acids in the bloodstream from overgrown Candida yeast.
Acids act as a mineral thief in the bloodstream pulling alkaline minerals like calcium and magnesium from your bones, teeth and myelin sheath. Rather than trying to make up the difference by eating more milk products or supplementing with megadoses of calcium (which actually don't remineralize you), you can preserve your bone mass by removing the acid forming overgrowths in all the permeable parts of you. These are robbing you of your basic essential minerals. Tending to these microbial invaders is the fastest way to alkalize your body for better hormone balance and so much more.
Anxiety and depression are related to a sudden dip in the levels of estrogen, and complicated by a cyclic loss of the body’s natural supply of dopamine. How does this happen? When candida yeast overgrows in the gut, it excretes ethanol into surrounding tissues. While ethanol may be great in your car’s engine it’s actually a neurotoxin to your brain once it enters the bloodstream. Alcohol triggers anxiety and depression in several ways.
To begin, ethanol cancels the effects of dopamine, your happiness hormone, which has the enormous job of regulating your mood, behavior, sleep, cognitive thinking, motivation and reward. Dopamine helps with decision-making and creativity and when it’s interfered with, you feel a bit off, like the joy for life's leaked out of you.
When dopamine drops very low, states of brain impairment such as Parkinson’s, schizophrenia or ADHD are the result. In addition to destroying your dopamine, acetaldehyde and ethanol from yeast destroy defenseless enzymes needed for cell energy, and causes the release of free radicals that can damage your DNA. All not good.
It's a big mess that most of us are oblivious to as we continue eating a high sugar diet and medicating the resulting inflammation. If you know you haven’t consumed alcohol, yet you experience many of the symptoms of alcohol toxicity like:
If clouds of anxiety or depression are blocking out your naturally sunny self, spend a few minutes reading testimonials on depression and anxiety on our Results Blog. Today there is a strong scientific link between your mood & mental wellbeing and the state of your gut microbiome.
Estrogen deficiency is one of the reasons behind migraine in post-menopausal women. But if you experience migraines much earlier in life, it could also be due to acids from overgrowth in your microbiome destroying fragile hormones that keep you free of inflammation and feeling good. Read stories of migraines resolving as the gut microbiome heals.
It’s believed that estrogen exerts a protective action that prevents heart attacks and stroke. That’s why their incidence is low in pre-menopausal women. However, once a woman has reached menopause, the level of estrogen dwindles and women are at par with men as far as the incidence of these diseases goes. Read reviews of people healing their heart problems HERE. To learn how leaky gut and it’s microbial constituents can lower estrogen and contribute to heart palpitations and fibrillation read Leaky Gut and Heart Problems.
(ET) in hormone replacement therapy is associated with an increased incidence of endometrial and ovarian cancer. So this form of hormone therapy is more often recommended for women who've undergone hysterectomy. Use of EPT (with progestin) is associated with increased incidence of breast cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. These risks are especially more pronounced with a prolonged use of the hormones.
So, rather than submit to prolonged use of synthetic hormone therapy and increase your risk of these cancers, why not address the microbiome directly and see how many (if not all) of these hormone related symptoms you can mitigate?

Mood swings, hot flashes, painful periods and weight gain. These are hard realities for nearly half of women age 30 to 60. According to a recent survey published in the New York Post, 43% of women say that hormones have negatively affected their overall well-being.
The survey of 2,000 American women age 30 to 60 also found that a surprising 72 percent were unaware of the connection between other uncomfortable symptoms like anxiety, depression, brain fog and short term memory loss and their out of whack hormone levels.
Imbalances occur when there is too much or too little of a hormone in the bloodstream. Because of their essential role, even small hormonal imbalances can cause side effects throughout the body. What’s to blame for all this pain and suffering? Well, here are a several contributing causes along with 5 Habits you can adopt today for healthier hormone balance.
Environmental pollutants play a role in creating hormonal imbalance. Around 51 chemicals have been marked as hormonal disruptors. The most common chemicals are pesticides in the food chain. They mimic estrogens and cause symptoms related to excessive estrogen. Similarly, almost all kinds of plastics, inks and paints contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) which are again a hormone disruptor.
Petrochemicals contain synthetic estrogens called xeno-estrogens which can displace the natural estrogen from the body resulting in hormonal imbalance. Dioxin is another hormone disrupting chemical that leaches out of plastics when frozen or when heated. I used to think freezing water in plastic water bottles was a great time saving hack. And that re-heating leftovers in plastic containers in the microwave was fine. What we now know is that both of these lifestyle habits release Dioxin into the food or water. Dioxin is also present in dry cleaning fluids, disinfectants and drugs- all products that are commonly used in Western cultures.
Livestock are fed synthetic estrogens to increase the milk yield and to fatten them up to provide more meat. This synthetic estrogen again finds its way into our bodies when we consume commercial dairy and meat.
Too much stress decreases the production of progesterone while increasing the production of corticosteroids, thereby creating a state of hormonal imbalance.
One major disruptor that most women aren’t aware of and not enough people are talking about is the influence of the gut microbiome on your healthy hormone balance.
The gut microbiome consists of 300 trillion tiny organisms living in and on the permeable surfaces of your body and that participate in creating a stable environment for your gut to make the myriad neurotransmitters responsible for hormone synthesis. When one or more risk factors occur, friendly bacteria are knocked out of the population and opportunistic yeast, mold or fungus take over where the good guys lived. And when these organisms overgrow, they don’t play nice like friendly bacteria do. Instead they vandalize membrane walls, marring and inflaming them with their acidic bodily juices until the fabric on the membrane becomes loose and torn and no longer serves as the barrier it was designed to be.
Overgrown candida yeasts, mold and fungus have a massive impact on the delicate balance of hormones women need, not only for comfortable menstruation but also for proper sleep, clear thinking, motivation and a sense of wellbeing.
There are at least 2 ways your hormones are disrupted by Candida overgrowth and the resulting leaky gut it creates. For one thing, the gut houses trillions of microbiota many of which manufacture the majority of your body's neurotransmitters and hormones like dopamine, serotonin and others.
Not in the brain, but right in the gut.
The gut's been called the "second brain" for its major role in manufacturing proper levels of hormones and neurotransmitters to keep you healthy and happy.
When antibiotics wipe out a bacterial infection, all the non-bacterial organisms take over the freed up real estate. They move right in and setup house. Unlike your friendly bacteria, these decomposers do not protect and soothe the gut, but rather their metabolic byproducts (acids and alcohols) burn and inflame the membranes they inhabit and in a matter of a few weeks can alter the strength of tight junctions in the permeable membrane itself. Once this happens, the protective membrane can no longer serve as a barrier to toxins, parasites, allergens and undigested food particles that don’t belong in the bloodstream.
By their very presence, these invasive fermentation organisms interrupt the supply chain of hormones and immune regulators that normally are synthesized right in the gut. When your microbiome gets hijacked by opportunistic candida yeast and fungus, less of what you need to feel like your happy healthy self is being produced.
The second way Candida Yeast Overgrowth and it’s accompanying Leaky Gut messes with your hormones is by producing high levels of ethanol in the blood. This ethanol wreaks havoc with your hormone levels, chemically altering them so that dopamine is no longer dopamine, and testosterone turns into estrogen.
Awareness is the first step in creating positive change, so now that you know, do what you comfortably can to reduce your exposure to hormone harming substances.
1. Go Organic: Eat pesticide free vegetables and fruits.
2. Clean Animal Protein: Choose organic, hormone free meat and eggs.
3. Be Dioxin Free: Avoid freezing or heating in plastic, choose reusable metal flasks for water instead. No plastic in the microwave.
4. De-Stress: Adopt a daily ritual of deep breathing or meditation to unplug stress and relax. This will lower cortisol and adrenalin and keep your gut pH favorable for friendly bacteria to thrive.
5. Mind Your Microbiome: Curb candida overgrowth by weeding your microbial garden with 30 Day Reboot.
Your happy hormones are depending on you!

That's the conclusion of a study reported at the annual meeting of the American Heart Association (AHA) in March 2020. The study authors attributed 180,000 annual deaths worldwide—25,000 in the United States alone—to sugary beverages.
But sodas and fruit drinks aren't our only sources of added sugar. The average American eats between 22 and 30 teaspoons of added sugar each day, totaling an average of 150 pounds annually.
According to AHA guidelines, women should not get more than 100 daily calories (about 5 teaspoons or 25 grams total) from added sugar. In reality, "you don't need any added sugar," says Dr. Michelle Hauser of Harvard Medical School.
Of course laying the Sugar Monsters to rest is a celebratory event for all of your body’s internal systems, not just your heart. Here’s how 6 girls experienced letting go!
The good news is that sugar cravings are not a personality flaw or weakness, but in fact come from the trillions of microbiota at work in all the mucous membranes of the body. These opportunistic critters need sugar to survive and thrive. So, the easiest way to cut Sugar Cravings for good is to invite them to leave. And here's what happens when you do!
“There are few things I can put my name on to endorse besides my faith in God. Most things are fads but it has been 9 yrs since my health coach introduced this cleanse to help me to cut down on sugar. The sugar/carb cravings came to a halt. We've found out these Body Balance herb capsules are AMAZING. They kill strep throat faster than antibiotics! Stephen used to get strep every year, not anymore!! My allergies and asthma have been vanquished! I can pet a cat, my dog can come in the house, I can run without my inhaler. Thank you Tumtree!”
Emily Judd, Phoenix, AZ
“Colon Cancer is a very real concern in my family. I’ve always had constipation issues, despite my manic workout schedule and high-fiber diets. I had my first colonoscopy at the age of 25 where doctors found several polyps. It wasn’t uncommon for me to go four or five days without a bowel movement. When I started 30 Day Reboot, I had no idea what a major difference it would make in my life. I have more energy, I don’t crave sugary food like I used to, I lost 12 pounds in the first month, but best of all, I average two bowel movements a day. I never knew I could feel this GOOD. The eating restrictions were tough for the first few days, but since then I hardly even notice it. I feel so good that I don’t look at this as a diet. It’s a lifestyle change, and I’m loving every minute of it. Thanks!”
Jen Johnson, Spanish Fork Utah
“My daughter has dealt graciously for a few years now with pet and soy allergies and eczema. We recently found your website after praying for healing asking the Lord for wisdom. I watched your video and knew we needed to try the Reboot together. After 30 days she has seen significant improvement and is continuing with the protocol. I was thrilled to find that I could kick the sugar cravings! I have less anxiety, better sleep and more energy in the afternoons. My other daughter started the program in hopes of clearing acne and will follow up with a review in a few weeks. She has already seen improvement! We are so thankful for your products and really appreciate your teaching, support and customer service. It is clear that you sincerely care about your customers.”
Amy Davidson, Monaco, PA
“I’ve been using the Reboot protocol for one month and have felt much better. Great things I’ve noticed so far are that I’m sleeping better-not taking benadryl every night and I have less constipation. My fasting blood sugar before the cleanse was 109 and 148 postprandial. Now, it’s between 73 and 90. My blood sugar looks so much better and that is a miracle. I feel more energy returning to me and am able to start running again because, so far, no more joint pain. My sugar cravings have also been better. Thanks so much for this program!”
Jen Nye, RN, Zillah, WA
“I completed a month of Reboot and I feel great! Before I began I was having serious headaches, problems with sleeping, and ongoing food cravings for fatty and sugar laden foods. I started the GI cleanse and within the first three days my food cravings were gone. I found within the first week of the Body Balance pills and Glutamine my headaches had gone. I avoided gluten, dairy and sugar throughout but still ate small portions of rice and quinoa. Now that I have finished I am sleeping great, my headaches are gone, and I’m eating healthy and not dealing with food cravings. I’m noticing I’m not as tired and I have more energy! A side bonus was that I lost 5 pounds in three weeks. Thank you for this wonderful cleanse. It has helped me so much!”
Krista Hasler, Boise, ID
“My symptoms have been lymphedema in my legs, IBS, weight gain, joint pain, sleeplessness and sugar cravings. It has now been 42 days without sugar! The swelling in my legs and feet has gone down. I am sleeping better than I have in months. People are noticing my face is less puffy and thinning out some. People ask me how I have done it and I tell them I cheated because I had Reboot to help me cleanse the chemical dependance on sugar! Overall I am feeling so much better. My stomach problems have pretty much gone away. So thank you again for sharing your knowledge! People are amazed I am doing this including the doctors I see. =) Yay me!”

There has also been a steady rise in the incidence of POTS since the COVID19 pandemic hit the US in early 2020. Up to date research is showing that there is a distinct rise in POTS following COVID19 vaccination, and an even bigger rise in POTS following SARS-COV-2 infection (long covid). For more on that click here.
In this post, we'll look at common symptoms and a non-conventional therapy that's making all the difference in this rising autoimmune disease.
POTS is defined as a persistent increase in heart rate of at least 30 beats per minute within 10 min of standing. POTS stands for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, a condition where a person gets lightheaded, dizzy and may faint when they stand up quickly.
What distinguishes POTS dizzyness from other ailments is that returning to sitting or laying down takes the symptom away.
Along with fourteen other kinds of dysfunctional autonomic nervous system varieties, all called "Dysautonomias", it cripples an estimated 70 million people worldwide.
Dysautonomia refers to a group of medical conditions caused by problems with the autonomic nervous system (ANS). This part of your nervous system, the autonomic nervous system, controls involuntary body functions such as blood flow.
Dysautonomia affects an estimated 70 million people worldwide, with 85% of them being female and roughly half experiencing symptoms before the age of 19.
There are fifteen types of Dysautonomia. The most common (by a long shot) is POTS with NCS (neurocardiogenic syncope, or fainting).
Your autonomic nervous system (ANS) is the part of you that works your vital organs without you thinking about it. Like, maintaining a constant internal temperature, regulating your breathing, keeping blood pressure steady, and moderating your heart rate.
Dysautonomias are states where these automatic functions no longer work properly.
POTS affects blood flow. POTS causes symptoms such as lightheadedness, fainting, cardiovascular issues, breathing problems and an uncomfortable, rapid increase in heart rate as a result of standing up from a reclining position… which are relieved by sitting or lying back down.
And it's linked to autoimmune conditions further down the road such as Parkinson’s disease and diabetes.
One distinct symptom of POTS is lack of oxygen to the brain resulting in fainting, also called syncope. Syncope affects tens of millions of people worldwide and it can occur only occasionally or it may be frequent enough to disrupt a person’s daily life.
Gravity naturally pulls the blood downward, but a healthy ANS adjusts the heartbeat and muscle tightness to prevent blood pooling in the legs and feet, and to ensure blood flow to the brain.
NCS (POTS) means the nervous system is failing to control this. The blood pressure is miserably low and the heart overworks to try to increase blood pressure without the help of muscles contracting and blood vessels constricting to move the blood up to the brain. This temporary loss of blood circulation in the brain causes a person with POTS to pass out or faint.
POTS can impact people differently, but here’s a grab bag of all the common POTS symptoms:
|
|
These symptoms can occur in a range of combinations, making dysautonomia a difficult condition for doctors to diagnose.
The following are known to trigger syncope (fainting) for people with this autoimmune condition:
Medications such as Midodrine and beta-blockers, along with pacemakers may be used to treat persistent or severe cases of NCS (neurocardiogenic syncope) or POTS.
But what if the answer to all this nervous system dysfunction lay in the gut microbiome?
Notice that alcohol consumption is a trigger. And although most teens and young adults do not drink alcohol regularly, POTS is on the rise among this demographic. It’s also curious to me that people with this condition do better if they watch their consumption of sugars.
Why?
Because all autoimmune diseases, Dysautonomia and its fifteen varieties included, begin in the gut. Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine made this claim thousands of years ago (400 BC).
Once friendly bacteria are destroyed by any one of eight different risk factors, simple sugars in the diet feed opportunistic microbes in the gut which then produce enough internal alcohols to make you feel a bit tipsy and trigger POTS symptoms to fire.
What people all over the world are discovering is, when they restore "health to the navel" by repairing leaky gut syndrome and removing the majority of acid-producing microorganisms from their microbiome, the "marrow in their bones" which is where immune cells are born and maintained, comes back to its senses and begins performing its proper function and stops attacking the body.
So what am I saying? There is a “new” treatment plan to cure POTS disease! And it starts with healing your gut first. But don’t take my word for it…
I've had the privilege of walking with a friend who developed POTS within days of running a marathon. She ended up in the hospital and didn’t know if she’d ever run a marathon again. She's seen great strides in her recovery by cleaning up her gut microbiome using Tumtree products, and as part of helping her in her recovery, I've become a student of POTS, NCS and other forms of Dysautonomia. I am fascinated by its genesis and am excited to share what we’ve discovered with you!
Meet Idonna Clarke from Idaho. She was diagnosed with Dysautonomia at age 36, just 7 days after running her second marathon. She underwent surgery to have a heart pacemaker installed. She suffered a pneumothorax (punctured lung) during the surgery and six months later had not recovered her health. Could you imagine?
Here’s Idonna telling her story:
"I tried rest, caffeine, slept elevated, visited my doctor multiple times but did not improve. What made all the difference was when I did the full 30-Day Reboot program to correct my microbiome and heal my leaky gut." - Idonna Clarke, Idaho
Do you seem to gain weight no matter what you do? Are you eating healthy and working out, but the number on the scale doesn't budge, or worse, keeps going up? You may be surprised to learn about a possible connection between your weight gain and candida overgrowth.
In this blog post, we'll explore the candida and weight gain connection, and talk about how to unplug the stubborn weight.
Candida overgrowth is the common term used for an overgrowth of the yeast, candida albicans. Normally, candida poses no threat and is simply part of the many microbes that live in the digestive tract and other parts of the body including the ears, nose and throat, urinary and reproductive tracts.
The problem starts when it overgrows. Candida is opportunistic and will jump at the first chance to multiply and take over its neighbors in the microbial community, especially in your gut. It is also very clever and will build forts (biofilms) around communities of candida to keep them “safe” from detection, preventing your body from getting rid of them. If the other bacteria and microbes that live in your body are unable to keep candida in check, you will quickly have an overgrowth and a host of uncomfortable symptoms to go with it, including candida weight gain.
If you struggle with an extra 20-50 pounds that won't go away, you’re not alone!
It could be what’s referred to as “leaky gut weight gain” or “candida weight gain” messing with your metabolism.
Statistics tell us that candida overgrowth is the root cause of many health issues today. It’s estimated by the Centers for Disease Control that approximately 46,000 cases of healthcare-associated invasive candidiasis occur each year in the United States, and probably more.
Don’t underestimate the detrimental effects of this normally benign yet opportunistic yeast.
Candida can quickly grow out of control and cause imbalance in multiple body systems. Once you have this overgrowth in your body, it can increase the chance of weight gain because this infection interacts with hormones responsible for increasing your appetite, including sugar cravings. This results in you feeling munchy and hungry more often than normal.
The yeast also releases its waste into your bloodstream overloading your liver with toxins and disrupting normal hormone pathways.
All of this can lead to symptoms such as craving sugar, vaginal yeast infections, fatigue, bloating, gas after meals, aching muscles and joints, brain fog or lack of concentration.
If there's one type of yeast that deserves its bad rap, it’s Candida.
Let’s take a deeper dive into how candida causes weight gain.
Candida and weight gain go hand in hand. Candida is responsible for excess fat deposits in at least three ways. In order to lose weight related to candida overgrowth, you need to treat the root cause— the underlying candida infection.
Candida thrives on sugar, its preferred source of fuel. When you are in the throes of a candida infestation the candida will cause you to crave carbs and sugar in all its forms. Maintaining a healthy metabolism — the key to maintaining a healthy weight — is impossible when you need to feed a sugar-craving organism like candida.
As Candida multiplies, it releases acidic toxins into your bloodstream. This is part of the natural life cycle of the organism. The toxins that are being released are processed by your liver. But your liver can quickly become overworked and then begin storing these toxins in your fat cells to be processed at a later date. That’s right, those candida toxins will show up as stubborn weight around your abdomen, hips and thighs.
Toxins released by dying candida can wreak havoc with your metabolism and create hormonal imbalances. Here's how candida can lead to weight gain.
***To begin with, your adrenal glands, just like your liver, will become overworked from the stress of dealing with the effects of candida overgrowth. This leads to a sluggish thyroid and metabolism. A slow metabolism will cause you to gain weight.
Secondly, candida releases two particularly nasty toxins, ethanol (alcohol) and acetaldehyde. These are responsible for the main symptoms of a hangover. They can impair nerve and liver function and disrupt the endocrine system. It is like having a large amount of toxic alcohol floating around in your bloodstream. It will burden your liver, affect your blood sugar levels and disrupt your hormones all of which will cause you to put on weight.
However, there is good news! Candida weight gain can be undone. Keep reading to learn how!
Unfortunately, many people aren't aware they have candida overgrowth. Their symptoms are often wide-ranging, perplexing and seemingly unrelated making it difficult to pin down and diagnose. In the busyness of our day-to-day lives, we may not connect a bout of toenail fungus with recurrent headaches, a touch of brain fog and some sinus issues. But it can all be related to candida overgrowth.
Here is a list of common candida overgrowth symptoms:

It’s quite possible that as you skimmed through the list of common symptoms above, you started wondering if you have a candida overgrowth issue. Fortunately, you don’t have to wonder!
There are several testing options available to determine if you have a candida overgrowth. These tests can identify whether there is an overgrowth in your intestinal tract, and depending on the type of test, what types of yeast are living there, and where they are located.
It is important to keep in mind that there are several factors that can influence what type of test you should take, and the results you will get from the various test options. Some of these factors you should consider include the severity of your symptoms, allergies or sensitivities. Consulting a professional or leaky gut expert can help you identify the right test for you.
The most reliable method to prove to yourself and others that you have an overgrowth of candida albicans is to undertake lab testing by a functional medicine practitioner who can request lab tests. Currently, few if any of these tests are covered by medical insurance. Hopefully, that will change in the next decade as more and more medical practitioners become aware of this insidious invader. Here are a few they may request for you:
Although this one is not fun to contemplate, this test can in fact reliably determine the levels of candida albicans in your gut and let you know if they are abnormal. This is considered the best testing option.
This very handy test determines if your immune system has created antibodies as a response to fight a candida infection. There are three different types of antibodies that can indicate an overgrowth of candida.
This test analyzes your urine for any waste products that candida may have left behind as evidence. These waste products are not naturally occurring in the body and their presence would suggest an overgrowth of candida.
There are two additional testing options worth mentioning that would confirm a condition referred to as “leaky gut” which is caused by long-standing candida overgrowth. So if these tests confirm leaky gut, it also means there is candida overgrowth present.
The standard leaky gut Lab test is called the Lactulose/Mannitol Challenge. You drink a solution containing two substances (non-metabolized sugar molecules lactulose and mannitol) and then collect your urine. Lactulose is large and penetrates poorly through the intestinal barrier when it's healthy, so an elevated level of lactulose in your urine indicates increased intestinal permeability. Mannitol, on the other hand, is usually well absorbed so a low percentage recovery of mannitol is indicative of malabsorption due to leaky gut. A high lactulose to mannitol ratio means that you have increased gut permeability.
Another test to measure the effects of long-standing Candida overgrowth is with a food allergy test, specifically IgE, IgG4 and IgA antibodies. There is a scientific certainty that Candida Albicans causes leaky gut which will cause food sensitivities. If leaky gut is to be healed, those foods must be identified and removed from the diet for effective healing while removing Candida overgrowth from the body.
If you prefer self-diagnosis, here are two tests you can perform without enlisting the help of a practitioner or paying costly lab fees. These can increase your certainty that candida overgrowth and its accompanying increased intestinal permeability (Leaky Gut) is still present.
Assessing your total number of yeast-connected/leaky gut symptoms can increase your certainty that Candida overgrowth is present. The more symptoms you have had in the past, and especially those you are still experiencing now, the more certain you can be that Candida overgrowth is still present.
See a list of symptoms in our Symptom Tracker, a free download to help you take inventory of your symptoms. Re-assessing your symptoms over time is also how you will know when you've completely healed the overgrowth and restored proper permeability to your intestines. Goodbye leaky gut and candida overgrowth!
This is a popular at-home test that many people consider to be an indication of a candida infection. And it's been pretty consistently a true test for the 300+ coaching clients I've worked with in the last 20 years. The theory is that an overgrowth of candida in the intestinal tract will eventually migrate and be seen in other mucous membranes and appear in your saliva.
How to perform this test:
Making changes to our diet, lifestyle and supplement regimen can quickly yield results. The following five-Step approach will help you eliminate candida overgrowth and lose weight.
Train your bowels to take the garbage out every day. When body toxins and metabolic waste have a way out of the body you’ll think more clearly, feel lighter and obtain more energy from the food you eat.
The easiest way to normalize the bowel is to incorporate a supplement rich in fiber and other necessary nutrients and minerals into your diet. Check out our Exodus GI Sponge or raspberry flavored Gut Sponge for a supplement fortified with two forms of prebiotic fiber, mineral-rich clay and a special blend of herbs and spices.
Next, restore balance to all your mucous membranes by removing excess yeast, bad bacteria, and other parasites and pathogens. All bitter herbs have antifungal and antibacterial qualities. Tumtree's Body Balance blend beats them all with its carefully selected blend to expel bad bacteria, candida yeast, and viral infections from the body.
The fastest way to heal the damaged mucosal lining of the bowels, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and reproductive system is to provide an ample supply of the building blocks needed. Glutamine is responsible for muscle, joint and membrane repair. Cut your healing time in half by supplementing with this conditionally essential amino acid.
Healthy mucous membranes rely on a robust population of friendly bacteria to protect them from invasion by unfriendly pathogens. Antibiotics, stress, and the use of steroid and NSAID drugs decrease your population of friendly flora and increase the permeability of mucosal linings. Find a probiotic blend that introduces 10 billion new colonies of friendly bacteria from 8 different strains per day and target feeds micro-flora for higher survival and stronger implantation.
Sounds complicated? Don’t worry! Our Probiotic Blend is the perfect solution we crafted to do just that.
Just because you’re starving the candida doesn’t mean you have to starve too! You can starve candida while nourishing the rest of you.
For the fastest and longest-lasting results, your diet should be free of the five inflammatory allergens and any other foods that make you feel uncomfortable. The five triggers to completely avoid are:
If you’re like us, when you first hear this, you might be asking “So… what CAN we eat?”
The truth is, there are hundreds of healthy, whole-food recipes you (and your family) will enjoy! We compiled our favorites in the fifth edition of The Feel Good Cookbook to take the guesswork out of it for you.
With these five objectives in place: daily bowel movement, cleansing unwanted pathogens from the body, repairing the damaged lining of the bowel and other mucous membranes, restoring a healthy population of friendly bacteria, and offering your body proper nutritional support for wellness, you can count on your body to heal quickly and completely, and the excess weight you've wanted to lose finally melting away.
These five principles for healing are powerful, and available for anyone to implement on their own. Get started and begin experiencing how much better you feel when you reclaim your health from dreadful candida overgrowth!
We've researched and tested specific nutrients that accomplish all five principles in a short thirty (30) days. We took that research and developed the products referenced above, and put them all into our Leaky Gut Supplements Reboot Starter Kit to help you reinvent your health with a 30-day supply of leaky gut treatment supplements, designed to correct and heal candida overgrowth.
There is no need to suffer from uncomfortable symptoms of candida overgrowth. And there is certainly no need to let candida keep you from reaching your ideal weight. You can take control of your health and beat candida for good!
And the Tumtree Team is here to help you. Please reach out on our chat with any questions (just look for the blue bubble at the bottom of your screen).
We're here for you! Helping people heal their microbiome and restore proper permeability to their body is what we live for.

I’ve used 2 refill kits and a third tub of Exodus in 24 months. And I’ve never had a flat out sick day. In fact, I gained 6 pounds. So thanks! Tanner H, Fortaleza, Brazil
The National Cancer Institute projects “1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will have cancer in his or her lifetime.” Everyone knows someone who's been affected by it. Many Americans have swallowed hard at the discovery of a tumor that was later surgically removed or eventually pronounced ‘benign’, yet others remain in treatment now, fighting for their lives. So, what on earth enables this often fatal disease to overcome the human race so easily?
Cancer is ‘cell growth run amuck,’ or malignant transformation. It refers to any one of a large number of diseases where abnormal cells divide uncontrollably and have the ability to infiltrate and destroy normal body tissue. This messed up cell growth also has the ability to spread throughout the body. And it’s currently the second-leading cause of death in the United States.
My older brother was 6 when he died from cancer of the bone marrow or ‘multiple myeloma.’ Just prior to his diagnosis at age 5 he’d been sick with fever and stomach flu repeatedly and complained of painful leg aches for a number of months.
The pain inside his bones was the greatest discomfort to both him and my parents as they watched his little body become more frail and deformed from this aggressive malady. It must have given my parents some concern when ten years later, as a 5-year old I was also repeatedly sick with stomach flu and fever, earaches, urinary tract infections and regularly complained of leg aches at night.
We all ascribed it to “growing pains”, but what mom wouldn’t wonder? Back then so little was understood about the immune system, pH and disease, so she began a quest to learn what had taken her son at what should have been such a bright and bouncy time of life.
Some 40 years later doctors and scientists are discovering some fundamental relationships between body chemistry and cancer, and beginning to defray the overwhelming mystery.
Since the Human Microbiome Project was launched in 2008, scientists have begun to understand the central importance of a balanced microbiome in the prevention of cancer, and the dysbiosis or overgrowth of harmful organisms as a brand new piece in the understanding of the carcinogenesis puzzle.
A 2016 review by National Institutes of Health summarizes what science has uncovered so far. Some medical doctors theorize that candida yeast or other systemic fungal infections cause or at least contribute to the development of cancer. Why? When candida, which normally lives in limited numbers in the mucous membranes of the body becomes systemic (entering the bloodstream) it wreaks havoc on the immune system.
Not only does the immune system become overwhelmed and worn out from fighting the infection, but candida (or other fungi) excrete toxins that further weaken and harm the body. It’s not surprising, but a bit foreboding how many symptoms of underlying cancer match those of underlying systemic yeast. To name a few:
All living creatures have one function in common, they breathe. Respiration allows the conversion of nutrients into energy within the organism. Humans and all other highly developed organisms require oxygen to carry out aerobic respiration, while primitive organisms like yeasts and mold can thrive in “anoxic” environments, carrying out anaerobic respiration in places where oxygen is limited, like the muddy bottom of a river, the inside of a corked wine barrel or the inside of your intestines. (Moist, dark and airless—that’s what I’m talkin’ about.)
Cell Respiration Releases Energy from the food we eat: During the process of aerobic respiration (left side of pyramid), oxygen and food (glucose, fatty acids and proteins) combine and are broken down to obtain energy.
By this process, one molecule of glucose produces as many as 36 units of energy (ATP) with a little Carbon Dioxide and Water left over, which we exhale while breathing.
By contrast, anaerobic respiration (right side of pyramid - what yeast, mold and fungus do best) converts the same food molecule into only 2 units of energy (ATP) with some Ethanol (an alcohol-like neurotoxin in humans) and Carbon Dioxide (for gas).
This is known as alcoholic fermentation. So basically, if you feed candida sugar, it gives you very little energy, lots of alcohol and some gas & bloating for good measure. Notice that Anaerobic respiration produces far less energy – only 2 energy units compared with 36 units in aerobic respiration – which is why candida hosts feel so tired all the time. They aren’t getting the energy they deserve from their food!
The major waste product of candida is acetaldehyde, which produces ethanol, a form of alcohol. Ethanol may be great fuel for cars, but in your body it is a neurotoxin that causes excessive fatigue, foggy thinking, weakness and other detrimental symptoms. Acetaldehyde also cancels the effects of dopamine which has the enormous job of regulating your mood, behavior, sleep, cognitive thinking, motivation and reward. Dopamine helps with decision-making and creativity and, when it’s interfered with, states of brain impairment such as Parkinson’s, schizophrenia or ADHD are the result. In addition to destroying your dopamine, acetaldehyde from yeast destroys defenseless enzymes needed for cell energy, and causes the release of free radicals that can damage DNA.
Ethanol also inhibits the absorption of iron. Because iron is one of the most important oxygen supports in the blood, ethanol in your body creates low oxygen levels. And you know what happens when your cells are deprived of oxygen, right? They die. Every cell needs oxygen to thrive. Which is why it’s important to deal with candida if you want to beat cancer.
If you know you haven’t consumed alcohol, yet you experience many of the symptoms of alcohol toxicity like dizziness, weakness, fatigue, foggy-thinking, memory loss, incoordination, quick temper, nausea, impaired vision, slurred speech, gas, bloating and burping or addiction to simple carbohydrates (sugar, soft drinks, pasta and yeast breads) or moldy foods like cheeses, mushrooms and peanut butter…you may have an overgrowth of yeast making a distillery of your body.
With the help of candida, and dietary sugar you can elevate your own blood alcohol levels to exceed the “recommended guidelines” without ever touching a glass to your lips. Otto Warburg, winner of the Nobel Prize for medicine articulated his hypothesis in a paper entitled The Prime Cause and Prevention of Cancer which he presented in lecture at the meeting of the Nobel-Laureates on June 30, 1966 at Lindau, Germany. In this speech, Warburg presented evidence in support of the claim that anaerobiosis was a primary cause of cancerous cells. Anaerobic means “without oxygen”
Put in his own words, “the prime cause of cancer is the replacement of the respiration of oxygen in normal body cells by a fermentation of sugar.” From his hypothesis has arisen a wide variety of oxygen therapies that attempt to increase cell respiration by injecting tumors with oxygen, peroxide, and other hydrogen peroxide therapies, but with marginal success at halting their growth. Because, until the overgrown anaerobic microbes are removed from the body, aerobic respiration of all the body’s cells will remain crippled.
Candida and Cancer
Milton White, MD. believes that cancer is a chronic, infectious, fungus disease. He was able to find fungal spores in every sample of cancer tissue he studied. Some other doctors agree with him. One Italian doctor, Dr. Tullio Simoncini has a theory that all cancer is caused by candida and that candida fungus forms a vital role in cancer’s ability to survive. Candida makes toxins that impair the apoptosis process (which is the body’s ability to detect and destroy weird cells) allowing cancer cells to proliferate undetected.
Candida overgrowth intertwines with tumors, protecting them with a positively charged acid glue that holds candida and the tumors together. His original solution was to drink a teaspoon of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) in a glass of water half an hour before every meal. (If you try this at home, prepare to be nauseated. It’s the most basic or alkaline substance you can eat.) This pulls acids out of cancer cells, and neutralizes the acid glue holding the candida together. Without the candida to protect the cancer, “apoptosis” kicks in and cancers self-destruct.
With this simple, inexpensive therapy Simoncini reported many remissions. Now several doctors in Italy inject pharmaceutical grade bicarbonate of soda into tumors – with better results. Tumors can disappear within days or weeks. Simoncini’s breast cancer protocol now calls for surrounding a breast tumor with up to 120 cc of 5% sodium bicarbonate solution injected daily if tolerated. After several sessions most local cancers are gone. Far less invasive than radical surgery!
Fungi and Leukemia
Other doctors implicate fungi as a cause of leukemia. In 1999 Meinolf Karthaus, MD, watched three children with leukemia suddenly go into remission upon receiving a triple antifungal drug cocktail for their “secondary” fungal infections. In 1997 Mark Bielski stated that leukemia, whether acute or chronic, is intimately associated with the yeast, Candida albicans, which mutates into a fungal form when it overgrows. Author Doug Kaufmann (The Fungus Link) asserts that fungi in foods may play a role in cancer. He has seen children become free of their documented leukemia once the child’s diet was changed to one that no longer encourages yeast growth. Kaufmann’s diet is based on the widely published problem of mycotoxin (yeast) contamination of our grain foods. Grains such as corn, wheat, barley, sorghum, and other foods such as peanuts, are commonly contaminated with cancer-causing fungal poisons called mycotoxins. One of them, called aflatoxin, just happens to be the most carcinogenic substance on earth.
According to Kaufmann we consume, on average, from 0.15mg to 0.5mg of aflatoxin per day. So it’s not sugar alone that is the problem in our western diet, but fungal toxins found in the sugary grains we eat as well. More than once Kaufmann interviewed callers (on his health talk show) who craved aflatoxin rich foods like peanut butter and popcorn just prior to their diagnosis of cancer. Kaufmann believes that antibiotics play a role in this, as they destroy the normal, protective gut bacteria, allowing intestinal yeast and fungi to grow unchecked. The resultant overgrowth can lead to immune suppression, symptoms of autoimmune disease, and even cancer. “If the onset of any symptom or disease, cancer included, was preceded by a course of antibiotics,” he says, “then look for a fungus to be at the root of your problem.” Take heed.
Be well!

“I have been thrilled with my experience using your 30 day system. I had my gall bladder out 3 years ago and have had many digestive issues since then. Reboot has helped me not only with those issues (gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea), but it has also helped me lose fifteen pounds, sleep better and have more energy for my family and for exercise. It has made me want to improve my eating habits as well. I feel like it has put me on a better path to overall good health; mentally, emotionally and physically.”
-- Amy G., Provo, Utah
I really love your products. Over the last few years I have had great success with Reboot. I originally found them when I was dealing with major skin acne as a young adult. A friend recommended I try the whole cleanse and it was amazing that after two weeks I had no new skin eruptions on my face. Soon after I finished the cleanse my skin cleared up completely and boy was I happy! Such a relief.
Fast forward a few years, I had the bacteria H. Pylori within my stomach lining. This is a very resistant strain of bacteria that caused me a lot of indigestion and pain. My doctor recommended that if I didn’t want to do antibiotics I could try the Reboot from Tumtree. So I went that route and have been so incredibly pleased.
After a couple days my stomach stopped hurting. The bloating went away and the intestinal pain and inflammation did too. My favorite improvement was when the nausea stopped altogether. Previously I would be nauseous after every meal and first thing in the morning.
After finishing off the cleanse for a month, I felt like a new person! My family and I now keep the cleanse on hand for after holidays, or when we can tell our gut needs a rebalanced state. I am just so glad we were introduced to these supplements. They literally have changed our way and quality of life."
— Kylie Powers Utah
"I ordered Reboot a while ago and it was WONDERFUL! I have battled IBS and fatigue for YEARS and it has been GONE since I did the cleanse. My morning sickness was so much better than any of my other pregnancies too. I am 24 weeks pregnant now and am constipated. Although I can't do a full strength cleanse while pregnant, I’m so happy to learn I can use the Exodus and Glutamine as often as I want. Thank you for all you have done and all the research. This cleanse has been such a blessing to me and my family."

]]>COVID-19, or Corona Virus was first reported in Wuhan, China on December 31, 2019, which started out as an outbreak, has since become an epidemic, and may be set to become a pandemic this month. (An outbreak happens when a disease occurs in greater numbers than expected in a community, and can even be just one case. You can have outbreaks in different communities. An epidemic is an outbreak that spreads rapidly to many people. A pandemic is an epidemic of global proportions that has become widespread across several countries or continents.)
Mountain Man and I visited 3 large cities in China for 2 weeks in January and landed back in Southern Utah as news of the epidemic in China hit the US. What was thought to be first introduced to humans by the consumption of infected bat meat in Wuhan, now has the world paying attention and wondering whether to be freaked out or put it out of mind. If you’re feeling uneasy, you might feel better after reading 5 Facts About Corona Virus That Bring Me Peace.
As I’ve devoured whatever I can find online about this virus, and the current statistical reports from the World Health Organization, a clear plan of action is coming together for me and anyone I have influence with. Knowledge is power. And I say, Power to the People!
We really can’t expect our government or the scientists working madly on a solution, to protect our individual immune systems. And no one is as invested in our own survival or ability to thrive physically than we are. So, the way I’m preparing for a potential spread of COVID-19 in the Southern Utah region follows.
It's the same way I’m prepared for viral infection from influenza, swine flu, epstein barr and any other immune deficiency in our big family and wherever I have an audience. Of course we'd follow smart guidelines for quarantining and whatever else is deemed necessary at that time. But until we know more about this virus, here's my plan.
Did you know that your blood shows lab evidence of a lowered immune system within 30 minutes of eating simple sugars (like glucose, refined sugar, and fructose). First it causes a 50% reduction in your white blood cells’ abilities to kill germs. White blood cells are our “friendly fighters” that surround and gobble up bacterial, fungal and viral invaders. This effect is most noticeable 2 hours after eating sugary treats, but is still present even 5 hours later.
Keeping blood sugar levels healthy has been shown to improve immune system activity on many levels, including the insulin/glucagon cycle where blood sugars release insulin and insulin triggers the manufacture of histamine and cortisol... all not good for healing the body or fighting infection. Help your kids see the connection between their intake of sugars and feeling unwell. You don’t have to harp on it or be the sugar Nazi, just help them uncover how much was too much sugar for their immune system to take, in the previous 24 hrs before feeling ill. The correlation is amazing.
Memo to the Mom: Stock up on ready snacks that are low glycemic or keto friendly like fresh veggies with dip (carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, Terra Chips (root vegetables) or Sweet Potato chips dipped in hummus, guacamole or Unranch dressing from The Feel Good Cookbook.)
To top off your body's stores of Vitamin C in order to give maximum fight to infection, Take 1,000 milligrams Vitamin C every hour from morning til whenever you get a sloshy bowel movement usually by dinnertime. Then stop for today.
That’s your flushpoint or the maximum amount your body can absorb into your tissues. The next day. Take 75% of the flush point amount in divided doses (every 1 or 2 hours spread evenly throughout the day. Do this over the next 4-5 days.
You’ll feel the affects as congestion breaks up and lungs become relieved throughout that first day. Keep going with the Vitamin C at intervals daily until you feel sloshy or until symptoms are all gone. This technique has worked wonders for acute respiratory infection in our big family and in our online community. Vitamin C fact sheet from NIH.

]]>As for the article authors who dug into the documents around this funding, they offer two suggestions for the future. "Policymaking committees should consider giving less weight to food industry-funded studies," they write. They also call for new research into any ties between added sugars and coronary heart disease... and any other threats to Americans health as well."The practice of industry funded research continues today. More recently, the Associated Press obtained emails showing how a candy trade association funded and influenced studies to show that children who eat sweets have healthier body weights than those who do not."
Our understanding of how food affects our bodies is constantly unfolding. Sometimes, that means giving up an old belief in light of newer evidence. In the 80's medical professionals and nutritionists believed sugar from an apple was no different in the body than sugar from a snickers bar. So, hog it down right?
We also thought all fats were bad and that they were the culprit escalating heart disease. Now we know better. And new science is revealing how misinformed we once were about the role of dietary sugar in suppressing the immune system to prepare the body for sickness and "dis-ease" of every kind.
At the same time my friends and I were dancing our puffy side ponytails and leg warmers all over the dance floor, researchers were uncovering the next decade of research in immunosuppression by elevated blood sugars.
See, when you eat a big dose of sugar like a bottle of Coke or a candy bar, you temporarily tamp down your immune system’s ability to respond to challenges. The effect lasts for several hours, so if you eat sweets several times a day, your immune system may be perpetually operating at a distinct disadvantage.
Where do we get such a crazy idea? Well, it's based largely on research done in the 1970s in which study subjects donated blood before and after consuming a large dose of sugar (honey and orange juice were also tested). The blood was then placed in a petri dish and inoculated with a common strain of bacteria. Under a microscope, researchers could see that after a dose of simple sugars, certain white blood cells called neutrophils or phagocytes were far less aggressive in gobbling up the bacteria.
It was a vivid demonstration that served as a powerful cautionary tale about the harmful effects of sugar. But it’s striking that in the intervening 50 years, this study was never replicated or built upon. There is no research showing that consuming more sugar makes you more susceptible to colds or flu, for example. Why in heaven's name not?
Well, there's a big blatant reason for that. What came to light in 2016 through a whistleblowing publication in the Journal of the American Medical Association JAMA, is 50 years of the Sugar Industries sweet little lies about what scientists were REALLY finding out about dietary sugar and human health. In addition, the Sugar Industry paid top dollar, $50,000 to be exact to point the finger of scorn at dietary fat instead.
A committee known as the Sugar Research Foundation, funded by all the collective sugar growers and producers in the US, paid a couple of Harvard scientists to do a comprehensive review of all the research to date that implicated sugar in human health problems. And internal documentation reveals they were "very pleased with the results".
Basically, the Harvard scientists suggested there were major problems with all the studies that implicated sugar, and concluded that cutting fat out of American diets was the the best way to address coronary heart disease which is still the number threat to Americans health today. Super smart move for the Sugar Research Foundation, because review papers, especially if you get them published in a very prominent journal, tend to direct the scientific discussion ...for years to come.
Because this lobby group was so influential, research into the damaging effects of sugar became a dead end for scientists. Which is exactly what the Sugar Research Foundation wanted...and it continued for 50 more years. Read more about The Big Sugar Coverup here.
But the immune response is a very complex system. Sending a neutrophil to gobble up an offending pathogen is just one of many different ways that the body defends itself.
I love this explanation of immunity given by Monica Reinagel, MS, LD/N, CNS.
"There are arms of the immune system that function like beat cops, roaming around and arresting (or gobbling up) suspicious looking characters. But there are other arms that function more like the CIA, surveilling and keeping dossiers on known criminals so that they can be quickly apprehended should they attempt to strike again. Once identified, our immune system also has many methods for detaining, disarming, or destroying these criminal elements. We can heat them up, beat them up, poison them, dismember them, isolate, immobilize, or deport them."
Different threats activate different arms of the immune system and elicit different responses. Other departments of the immune system aren’t that good at spotting or apprehending offenders but instead react to signs of criminal activity, dispatching first responders to secure the area and deal with the wounded. Different threats activate different arms of the immune system and elicit different responses.
So to look at a petri dish full of neutrophils in a sugar-induced coma and say that “eating sugar suppresses immune response” is a bit of an over-simplification.
However, we do know that there are many other downsides to over-consuming sugar, everything from weight gain to diabetes to tooth decay. So, while I think we may have been guilty of over-simplification and over-interpretation of a single, small study, I still think the advice to limit your intake of added sugar is good advice.
Of all the reasons to curb your intake of simple sugars, immunosuppression is one to keep in mind as we approach the next looming flu season.
Eating excessive amounts of sugar may increase your risk of developing certain cancers. Here's a National Institutes of Health study showing that a diet rich in sugary foods and beverages will likely lead to obesity, which significantly raises your risk of cancer. Furthermore, diets high in sugar increase inflammation in your body and may cause insulin resistance, both of which increase cancer risk. Read about that government funded study here.
Another study in over 430,000 people found that added sugar consumption was positively associated with an increased risk of esophageal cancer, pleural cancer and cancer of the small intestine. An additional study showed that women who consumed pastries and cookies more than three times per week were 1.42 times more likely to develop endometrial cancer than women who consumed these foods less than 0.5 times per week. Pastry Cancer Study.
In a nutshell, too much sugar can lead to obesity, insulin resistance and inflammation, all of which are risk factors for cancer. Another associated Cancer connection comes from increased alcohol production in the body's microbiome when fed simple sugars. Alcohol feeds cancer. It's HUGE. Read Cancer, Candida and Alcohol here.
Research on the link between sugar intake and cancer is ongoing, and more studies are needed to fully understand how all the complex mechanism works. But there's plenty of fingers pointing at sugar to create a plan now to cut way back.
If you or a loved one are dealing with cancer, it could be a matter of life and death to consider not only the impact of dietary sugar on cancer growth but the impact of high carbohydrate eating on your trillions of tiny hitchhikers (your microbiome). Bringing the microbiome back into balance will be key to your sustained recovery.
To understand just why, Read Cancer, Candida and Alcohol here.
A seizure happens when a brief, intense surge of extra electrical activity flows between the cells in the brain. This activity causes physical or behavioral changes that range from intense full body shaking to mild staring and lip smacking. When a child or adult has repeated seizures it’s called Epilepsy and there are many types ranging from benign to intense.
I find it super interesting that alcohol consumption is a known trigger for seizures. According to Epilepsy.com, too much alcohol in the body can trigger a seizure because alcohol changes how neurons fire. Drinking four or five servings of alcohol in a two-hour period is considered binge drinking. This amount of alcohol leads to being drunk because the liver does not process more than one serving of alcohol per hour in an adult. Understandably www.Alcohol.org recommends ending alcohol dependence to avoid seizures. And even recommends avoiding alcohol altogether if you have a "genetic risk or family history of seizure disorders like epilepsy."
So why am I drawing your attention to the rise in epilepsy and alcohol as a potential trigger ...especially if your loved one with Epilepsy doesn’t drink alcohol? Because 7 months of every year from Halloween to Easter bring an unintented flow of sugary foods into our bodies that fuel the wrong sorts of microorganisms ...especially if you're aiming for healthy brain function. When you feed yeast, mold and microscopic fungus living in your body simple sugars --even the kind in fresh fruit, ... these microbiota give you lots of alcohol. Not only to they multiply like wildfire, but they produce buckets of brain fogging acetaldehide, oxalic acid AND ethanol. That’s right. The additive in gasoline that provides greater combustion for your cars engine is a neurotoxin to your brain. And when it's present in the bloodstream you feel brain-fogged, maybe a little clumsy or uncoordinated, headachy and mildly inhibriated. And if you ingest more sugar, which in effect produces more of these alcohol like substances, you can become drunk with your own blood, overwhelm the brain and liver and even trigger seizures.
Johns Hopkins Medical Center has been treating epileptic children for decades (100 years now) with a super low carbohydrate diet to merge them off of anti-seizure meds. And they now have enough associative evidence in the pediatric realm to feel comfortable recommending their Ketogenic Diet for Epilepsy to adults now as well.
The pediatric epilepsy team at Johns Hopkins has used a high fat, low carbohydrate ketogenic diet to address seizures since the diet’s therapeutic origins in the 1920s. They are one of the premiere centers in the world for clinical and research expertise on the ketogenic diet, having treated over 1,500 children with this approach. The ketogenic diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that shares many similarities with the Atkins and low-carb diets. It involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis. In this state, the brain is fueled by ketones or healthy fats instead of sugars and functions much more efficiently. Best of all, it starves alcohol producing microbes of the one thing they need to keep producing alcohol -- dietary sugars.
So sugars, fed to an overgrown population of alcohol producing microbes can overwhelm the brain and trigger seizures. Stopping the intake of sugars (including grains) is a necessary first step. And lowering blood alcohol levels is a brilliant idea for to protect your liver, endocrine glands, hormone production and heart as well as your brain. So, if you or someone you love has epilepsy, there's an especially good reason to go sugarfree. But the root of the problem stems from the non-native overgrowth of bad guys in the microbiome. To get to the root of the problem, you really need a comprehensive approach that goes after this overgrowth in the microbiome, while you’re depriving it of it’s preferred fuel source, simple sugars

With both kinds of diabetes increasing worldwide, and the US leading all other developed nations in prevalence by a long shot (30 million US of 46 million total cases worldwide), some understanding of the mechanism that creates this disease is a welcomed discovery!
Over the last 10 years, research into diabetes has found a link with intestinal permeability and gut bacteria. It turns out that the microflora in your digestive tract may play a big role in the development of diabetes.
Healthy gut bacteria can nurture the lining of your digestive tract, while harmful bacteria can cause inflammation to spread throughout your whole body – leaving you at risk for serious conditions like diabetes.
In a 2012 study, a team of researchers induced poor gut function in mice by giving them a drug we use in Western medicine called Tamoxifen. The Tamoxifen was able to completely disrupt the microbiome of the mice. Scientists discovered a strong similarity between the intestinal linings of the mice fed Tamoxifen and those with diabetes.
Both groups showed improvement when given insulin. According to the group of scientists, this means that there is a noteworthy relationship between gut bacteria, gut mucosa, and diabetes.
"It has become clear that many, if not all autoimmune diseases entertain an intimate connection to the bacterial gut flora, a cosmos of trillions of different bacteria, forming diverse consortia distributed along the length of the intestinal tube."
-- National Academy of Sciences
Over the past decade, since The Human Microbiome Project began, our understanding of immune reactivity and, in particular, of autoimmune disease has witnessed a silent revolution. According to the National Academy of Sciences, "It has become clear that many, if not all autoimmune diseases entertain an intimate connection to the bacterial gut flora, a cosmos of trillions of different bacteria, forming diverse consortia distributed along the length of the intestinal tube."
According to the 2012 study, "Scientists observe that in 2 models of Type 1 Diabetes, changes in the luminal gut wall precede onset of clinical autoimmune diabetes. These changes are most evident in the mucus layer of the large intestine, where they allow translocation of bacteria from the lumen into extraluminal tissues and where they enable activated self-reactive T cells to home in on the pancreatic islets and ultimately destroy the insulin-forming β cells." Read more from the study in Proceedings of the National Academy of the Sciences of the United States of America.
A 2015 study, conducted in Denmark, looked at more than 170,500 Danes with type 2 diabetes and a control group of more than 1.3 million. The study, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, found that patients treated for type 2 diabetes filled on average 0.8 antibiotic prescriptions per year compared to 0.5 prescriptions per year among controls.
The more antibiotics someone took, the more likely they were to have diabetes. Those that filled 2 to 4 prescriptions of antibiotics of any type had a 53% increased risk of having type 2 diabetes than those who filled 0 to 1 prescriptions of antibiotics.
The authors of this study noted that "a number of animal studies have suggested that antibiotics may change glucose and lipid metabolism upon altering the gut bacteria composition of the animal. ' But more research is needed to determine whether it was a causal link. “The possibility that antibiotics exposure increases diabetes risk cannot be excluded and deserves further investigation in interventional studies,” the authors wrote.
While scientists are still piecing together the puzzle, so far what they do know is that external stressors like antibiotics, steroids, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds (Ibuprofen, Relafen, Naproxen, Celebrex) can do enough damage to the lining of the gut to change its microbial residents. These changes not only affect digestion, but they can also have a systemic, or whole-body effect resulting in development of autoimmune disease, including both types of diabetes.
What is the root of autoimmunity? Some physicians and scientists claim it can be found in the gut. In other words, gut permeability is a common factor in many autoimmune conditions. This means that once again, inner ecology is key to optimal health.
When we are talking about diabetes and autoimmunity, there are two points to remember:
1. The immune system can be brought back into balance: An autoimmune disease is often found in the company of other autoimmune conditions. This is because once the body loses the ability to distinguish self from non-self, collateral damage can become widespread. Because the basis of this misfiring is brought on by imbalance, it dissolves once balance is restored to the microbiome and the immune system recalibrates to a normal healthy response. That's the good news.
2. Insulin does not address the underlying autoimmune confusion: In the case of Type 1 and sometimes Type 2 Diabetes, the immune system attacks the gland that makes insulin. Insulin is what helps our body regulate blood sugar levels. When the body is unable to produce insulin, blood sugar levels go dangerously unregulated. Even though diabetes is treated with insulin, the autoimmunity remains. Insulin does not address the underlying autoimmune confusion.
Diabetes, Joint Pain and Congestion
I’ve been using the Reboot protocol for one month and have felt much better. Great things I’ve noticed so far are that I’m sleeping better-not taking benadryl every night and I have less constipation. My fasting blood sugar before the cleanse was 119 and 148 postprandial. Now, it’s between 73 and 90. My blood sugar looks so much better and that is a miracle. I feel more energy returning to me and am able to start running again because, so far, no more joint pain. My sugar cravings have also been better. Next time I think I’ll try Reboot while cutting out sugar and see how much farther I can go. Thanks so much!

Diabetes, Muscle Cramps and Burning Feet
"I’ve been on the Reboot for 18 days and am so glad it stopped the gas. I’m even having 2 bowel movements a day, which hasn’t happened in a long time. My blood sugars are improving, with one day in the 80’s. The best part of all is that I’ve not felt any burning on the bottoms of my feet, which I have had for the last 2 years (whenever I’m on them for more than a couple hrs). I am also delighted that the cramping in my calf muscles so far is gone. I am 87 years old and am looking forward to going out walking again or maybe even riding my bike!, which I have not done for about 4 years due to the muscle cramps. I am pleased with the results so far."

Dr. Oz says, "leaky gut is likely to emerge as one of the most significant medical concepts of our time."
Leaky gut can be a difficult diagnosis to establish for a number of reasons: It's associated with a wide range of seemingly unconnected symptoms; it has a lot of different causes there's no test to absolutely confirm it; and evidence tying it to other conditions can be murky. As a result, there’s a fair amount of skepticism in the mainstream medical community about the legitimacy of leaky gut as a diagnosis. But as the evidence mounts that this is indeed a real and recognizable condition, opinions are slowly changing.
That's a good thing, because as Dr. Oz says, "leaky gut is likely to emerge as one of the most significant medical concepts of our time." It can masquerade as fatigue, anxiety, depression, digestive symptoms, weight problems, painful or irregular menstruation and other more serious conditions… And even with all the latest technology and over 10,000+ scientific research papers on it, most doctors and health professionals are too busy to keep up on everything coming out about this condition.
Many doctors haven’t heard of it because it isn’t something they learned back in medical school. Researchers discovered it by accident in the 1980’s, but despite growing evidence in the scientific literature linking it to almost every known chronic disease, it’s not talked about at the prominent clinics or leading universities yet. But in the last 3 years, Leaky Gut is starting to becoming more mainstream…
Since the completion of the Human Microbiome Project ($14.5 million in government funding from 2008-2019) we have a ton of new scientific data to interpret and figure out what it all means. 20 years ago when I sought out a medical doctor to help me heal from gut linked autoimmune disease, I was met with complete disbelief that food sensitivities were actually a thing, or that overgrown microbiota could impact a person's health so heavily. I'm so happy to finally see articles published in Reader's Digest, Newsweek, Harvard Health, Economic Times, Time Magazine, Doctor Oz, and more... So if you or a loved one are struggling with chronic illness, this might be the most important thing you’ll ever read. Because if you don’t do something about this sooner, it will come back to bite you bigger later. My experience has been that your health complaints will only get worse until your Leaky Gut is fixed.
What it does to you is this: it allows allergenic food particles, environmental chemicals, and bacterial waste to leak through your digestive tract into your body – once inside, these foreign particles trigger an aggressive immune response, promoting whole-body inflammation and jumpstarting the development of chronic disease. What’s happening is the delicate lining of your intestine is letting all the bad stuff in, and your body is breaking down from the inside out. The medical name of this hidden epidemic is: Increased Intestinal Permeability, but most people just call it “Leaky Gut.” Here’s why it’s a tricky problem: the destruction it causes depends on how long you’ve been sick, your genetics and your lifestyle choices. The confusing part is everyone can be affected differently, even inside your family it can show up differently depending on where an individual is genetically weak. This is why it stays hidden… And sadly, when it does, this condition will slowly make you sicker and have you feeling more miserable month after month and year after year.
In 1909, the first research paper was published talking about the connection between acne and the gut. Unfortunately, modern medicine forgot about this until all the recent research connecting leaky gut syndrome skin problems.
Recent research shows that people with conditions like Celiac Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease have an increased risk of skin problems.
One of the most common red flags for leaky gut is acne, psoriasis, rosacea, rashes, and eczema. Increased intestinal permeability (a.k.a. “leaky gut”) causes both systemic and local inflammation, which in turn contributes to skin disease. Recent research shows that people with conditions like Celiac Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease have an increased risk of skin problems, suggesting that if you are having a skin issue there is a likelihood you have a gut problem. With the skin being the largest organ in the body, all this inflammation will begin to cause an impact. It’s said that the skin is the outward expression of the gut lining.
So if there are skin issues, there are typically gut issues. The exciting thing is that studies show common leaky gut triggers like Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) are associated with a 10X increase in acne rosacea, until the SIBO is treated… then the leaky gut heals and the acne goes away. So, if you are having active skin issues, start by focusing on your gut health and over time, even as quickly as 30 days you can cool down systemic inflammation and expect your skin to improve. All this information might be new and feel overwhelming, but don’t lose hope... The first step is to put a stop to Leaky Gut.

Consider one risk factor to chronic knee pain your doctor may not have told you about. When a person's immune system is running low, you're more likely to develop a fungal form of arthritis, one that feeds on simple sugars and only gets worse with time. There’s a remote chance of this happening by meds contaminated with fungus microbes. Which is what happened in September 2012, causing a multistate outbreak of fungal meningitis and fungal arthritis. But what’s far more likely among the millions of people suffering with chronic knee pain, are the millions of prescription antibiotics dispensed and consumed in the US today. Broad spectrum antibiotics lay out a warm welcome for fungal overgrowth in all the mucous membranes of the body. Why? Because they destroy competing microflora in all their habitats... including the soft lining in your knees.
Fungal arthritis is inflammation of a joint by a fungus microorganism that has invaded the body and is growing in the soft synovial membrane of the joint. Fungal infection of a joint is a serious condition that can lead to permanent damage with loss of function. If your knee pain was ever preceded by a course of broad spectrum antibiotics, listen up.
Some risk factors for elevating fungus levels in the body that could be the cause of your knee pain are the use of broadspectrum antibiotics, chronic emotional stress, repeated use of steroids OR nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory meds (Ibuprofen, Relifen, Naproxen) and a high sugar diet.
If this isn’t your first go round with painful joints, and especially if antibiotic use preceded youwindow._klOnsite = window._klOnsite || []; window._klOnsite.push(['openForm', 'S5iXSk']);r joint problems, consider stepping up to a 30 day Reboot to alkalize and restore balance to all your mucous membranes. According to the American Heart Association, the average American consumes approximately 16 teaspoons more added sugar than is recommended per day.
Sugar stimulates the brain to release serotonin, the “feel good” chemical, which provides a natural high. The endorphins released after eating sugar calm and relax us, leaving us wanting more. Eliminating a sugar addiction can be difficult if you don't know where the addiction's coming from. But following these steps can greatly reduce cravings and make it easier to kick the habit for good and really enjoy healthy nutrient dense food instead.
Most things are fads but it has been 5+ yrs since Angel Naivalu introduced this cleanse to help me to cut down on sugar. The sugar/carb cravings came to a halt. We have found out these herb capsules are AMAZING. They kill strep throat faster than antibiotics! Stephen used to get strep every year, not anymore!! My allergies and asthma have been vanquished! I can pet a cat, my dog can come in the house, I can run without my inhaler. Thank you Feel Good Foods! -- Emily Judd, AZ
I knew I was making it much harder for myself by keeping all the garbage in my cupboards. So I put all canned and packaged goods containing sugar, corn syrups, and milk products in a big moving box in the garage. I didn’t have the guts to throw away poor quality food like I do now! A week or two later I gave it to a neighbor who seemed grateful. Purging was the easiest way for me and my little ones to get into whole and healthy foods instead.
I began immediately looking for replacements for ready finger food and snacks, particularly for little people. I filled the fridge with veggie trays (jicama, bell peppers and snow peas) fresh fruit, soaked almonds and pecans, whole grain crackers, bread and no-sugar cereals. For a special treat, search for stevia sweetened recipes like this delicious Skinny Chocolate Mug Cake, or super healthy Chocomole Pudding loaded with healthy fats. See the Kid’s Snacks section of The Feel Good Cookbook for more healthy low sugar recipe ideas.
We have a healthy homemade fruit sweetened dessert every Sunday evening as part of family night. This way dessert is something we look forward to as a treat instead of an “entitlement” at each meal. I’m finding that “less often” actually creates more anticipation and enjoyment than escalating frequency does.
Years ago, while cutting back on meat consumption, we started this tradition in order to thank the animal we were eating for giving us its life and tasty little body. Before that we slammed down meat like no tomorrow without thinking about where it actually came from. Sweet things are also deserving of this attention. Just for fun, try watching a movie without eating at the same time and decide that the movie itself will be your savor bite. Then, if you’d like, eat some popcorn when you can focus on it and really savor the flavor.
As you transition into healthier food choices, give yourself some mental space to ponder alternatives. At first I scoured the aisles of my grocery store for any food items free of sugar and bought bunches just to send the message to the grocer that people want more of them. You can find 100% fruit-sweetened jams made by various name brand companies. They are delicious with nut butters, or cut in half with water to make tasty fruit syrups for pancakes or desserts. I talked with store managers about expanding the selection of fruit-sweetened products and asked about discounts for buying in bulk. I was left with a narrower shopping list, but hey, that saves time and money, too. Shopping online for low sugar or keto snacks and recipes is a snap now. The possibilities are endless.
The last 15 years have seen an explosion of research demonstrating the importance of dietary fiber, and especially fermentable prebiotic fiber that benefits friendly bacteria in the bowel. In this post you'll learn 8 plus compelling reasons to get that goodness in you NOW.
Prebiotic fiber found in whole grains, vegetables, coconut flour and supplements galore, is widely acknowledged for its constipation-preventing characteristics. Because insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water, it passes through the gastrointestinal tract relatively intact. So, it can be helpful in promoting regular bowel movements by retaining water and encouraging the passage of food and waste through the intestines. The net effect is speeding up the bowel.
By promptly absorbing and removing irritating agents, carcinogens and even parasites, insoluble fiber systematically cleanses and detoxes the body. What's only recently been discovered is that some of these insoluble, non-digestible sources of fiber, also assist your friendly bacteria in doing that thing they do best - lactofermentation. Even psyllium husk ("intestinal brooms") it's been discovered, has some prebiotic effect by providing a substrate for fermentation of lactobacillus and bifidobacteria. In addition the insoluble kind of prebiotic fiber bulks up bowel movements and expels them easily from the body.
Newly identified as "prebiotic", researchers have long known that pectin can help to lower blood cholesterol levels, particularly very-low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL) particles which gets converted into low-density lipoprotein (‘bad’ cholesterol) in the blood.
Another benefit of upping your intake of prebiotic fiber is heart health. Prebiotic inulin may be able to moderate cholesterol and triglyceride levels- both indicators of heart disease. Specifically, one study shows that inulin can reduce artherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries by 30%. In the large intestine and colon, microorganisms degrade pectin and liberate short-chain fatty acids that have positive influence on overall health.
Because prebiotics act in your intestines, they have a profound effect on the pathogens and bad bacteria in your body that can cause disease. Not only is prebiotic fiber now being used to treat childhood obesity, but also Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Crohn’s Disease. It may also prove useful for treating cancer, osteoporosis and other diseases connected with the functionality of the gastrointestinal tract.
So, take a fresh look at what you’re feeding your kingdom within, and consider upping your prebiotic fiber intake. Exodus Prebiotic GI Sponge is our recommendation for upping your intake of prebiotic fiber and strengthening your overall health.

With all of the convoluted information out there, let’s take a clarifying look at what makes a food "prebiotic". I'll also hit on how all dietary fibers affect overall health.
Unlike probiotics which are living organisms, prebiotic fibers are food ingredients that feed or otherwise benefit the living organisms within us. At first prebiotics were thought to be only soluble fibers, but the club is growing larger land larger as new science uncovers more precisely how the food we eat affects the microbiome.
The word fiber, conjures up images of dense bran muffins and powdery fiber supplements swirled into a glass of fruit juice. This trendy type of fiber found in whole grains, vegetables, coconut flour and supplements galore, is widely acknowledged for its constipation-preventing characteristics.
What's brand new is that some of these insoluble, non-digestible sources of fiber, also assist your friendly bacteria in doing that thing they do best - lactofermentation. Even psyllium husk ("intestinal brooms") it's been discovered, has some prebiotic effect by providing a substrate for fermentation of lactobacillus and bifidobacteria.
Soluble fibers are a food group whose unique composition breaks down and ferments in the colon. Often this fermentation morphs into a gel-like substance that lubricates the gastrointestinal tract and slows down the bowel to allow for maximum absorption of nutrients. In addition, soluble fibers contain special prebiotic compounds-- the ingredients that the probiotic bacteria in the colon use as “food” or fuel.
Viscous fibers are those that have gel-forming properties in the intestinal tract, and fermentable fibers are those that can be metabolized by colonic bacteria. In general, soluble fibers are more completely fermented and have a higher viscosity than insoluble fibers. However, not all soluble fibers are viscous (e.g., partially hydrolyzed guar gum and acacia gum for example) and some insoluble fibers can actually be well fermented (psyllium).
A little confusion is understandable.
Pectin is the latest member to join the family of newly discovered "prebiotics". Its a viscous soluble fiber that's also totally fermentable in the lower bowel.
Inulin and pectin are naturally occurring compounds found in over 36,000 different types of plants and galactooligosaccharides are present in human breast milk-- suggesting that prebiotics are an intricate part of nature’s design that have long been accessible to humans in order to promote optimal health. Yet due to destructive conventional agricultural processes and a changed natural environment, viable sources of prebiotics are somewhat limited in the modern western diet.
Prebiotic compounds can be found in certain foods that are rich in dietary fiber and in undigestible sugars like fructooligosaccharides. Slavin states, "To date, all known and suspected prebiotics are carbohydrate compounds, primarily oligosaccharides, known to resist digestion in the human small intestine and reach the colon where they are fermented by the gut microflora. Studies have provided evidence that inulin and oligofructose (OF), lactulose, pectin and resistant starch (RS) meet all aspects of the definition, including the stimulation of Bifidobacterium, a beneficial bacterial genus. Other isolated carbohydrates and carbohydrate-containing foods, including galactooligosaccharides (GOS), transgalactooligosaccharides (TOS), polydextrose, wheat dextrin, acacia gum, psyllium, pectin, banana, whole grain wheat, and whole grain corn also have prebiotic effects."
Other benefits to your health in addition to maintaining your ideal weight are improved immunity and heart health. Prebiotic inulin may be able to moderate cholesterol and triglyceride levels- both indicators of heart disease. Specifically, one study shows that inulin can reduce artherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries by 30%. In the large intestine and colon, microorganisms degrade pectin and liberate short-chain fatty acids that have positive influence on health.
Because prebiotics act in your intestines, they have a profound effect on the pathogens and bad bacteria in your body that can cause disease. Prebiotic fiber is now being used to treat childhood obesity, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Crohn’s Disease, and may also prove useful for treating cancer, osteoporosis and any other diseases connected with the gut.
